I'm no stranger to teasing.
I don't mind it though, because I know I'm different to other girls my age, and I'm proud of it.
So what if I prefer to play football at breaktime rather than galloping around on an imaginary horse? The boys play football, and you don't tease them for it.
Who cares if I don't have long hair? It just gets in the way, and it's a pain in the neck to brush!
Why does it matter if I don't like pop music? I learn a lot from the songs that I listen to, and I value that knowledge a lot.
So why does Carmen take it so much to heart? Maybe it's because she's teased about something she can't help. She's well built like our dad, in the same way that I'm small and bony like our mum. She didn't choose to be born the way she was, any more than the kids who bully her chose to be born the way they were.
What the bullies don't realise is that they've made Carmen hate the way she was born so much that she'll do whatever it takes to change it.
And she doesn't care about the price she'll have to pay.
