Cleopa's POV
I was woken by the sounds of metal against metal. I opened my eyes and looked around, breathing heavily. I seemed to be in some sort of elevator, but the walls were cage like and there was no visible place to get out. I was surrounded by a few wooden crates. Red lights flashing in my eyes. The elevator was rushing upwards. I prepared myself for the impact as I saw the- what's seemed to be - the ceiling. The box I was in didn't slow down as it approached. I screamed as the elevator hit the ceiling. I couldn't feel any pain in my body. Is this what death is like? My eyes fluttered open, I still seem to be alive and well. I squinted as the ceiling opened to let the sun shine on my face.
"Another Greenie!" I heard someone shout, what was a Greenie? Were they referring to me? I saw a figure climb down down into the box beside me, he crouched down and I saw his face. He had blonde hair and brown friendly eyes. He had mildly tanned skin and was fairly muscular.
"You okay?" He asked me.
"I think so, yeah. Why can't I remember anything?" I said slightly panicked. He frowned lightly and looked up at another figure.
"She has the same accent as you!" The other person, who had an funny accent, said, clearly talking to Blondie, though eyeing me suspiciously.
"What accent? I don't have an accent, neither does he, you do though." I said motioning to the other guy. Blondie shrugged at Accent Guy.
"Don't worry, none of us can remember anything, your name will come to you in a few days-" Blondie turned back to me.
"I know my name, it's Cleopa." I said, cutting him off. He said
raised his eyebrows.
"Well then hello Cleopa." He smiled and offered his hand. I took it and he helped me up. "My name's Newt."
"Hello Newt." I smiled back, then winced as I stood, pain struck my limbs and I fell forward. I heard Newt and Accent Guy rush over to me.
"Greenie!" Accent Guy said.
"Are you okay?" I heard Newt's worried voice.
"Should I get Jeff?"
"Yeah." Newt said and Accent Guy ran off.
"Owww..." I groaned. After a a few seconds Accent Guy returned with another boy, this must be Jeff, he felt my wrist to check my pulse.
"Her pulse is normal, where can you feel any pain Greenie?" He asked.
"My arms... my legs..." I said through gritted teeth. Jeff rolled up my worn jeans and his eyes widened slightly. Him, Accent Guy and Newt looked at each other and seemed to be agreeing on something.
"Hey, Greenie, we're just gonna lift you up and take you to medical, so try and relax, okay?" Accent Guy said.
"Okay." Relaxed my muscles and shut my eyes, I could tell this was going to hurt. I felt arms lifting me and soon I could tell we were moving. Where I made contact with their hands my muscles throbbed, the pain overwhelmed me and I fell into a black abyss."It's three a.m." I heard as I attempted to tiptoe past the living room to the stairs. I stopped dead in my tracks. His voice came from the kitchen, which was to my left.
"Uh..." I couldn't tell him where I'd been. His shadow was the first thing I saw.
"Where we're you?" He asked, and I saw his face. He had slightly narrowed eyes and his mouth was a stern line. My eyes drifted to his hands, his fists were clenched, he held an empty beer bottle by the neck and he was holding it so tight it might have shattered if he tightened his grip. My father had been drinking. Ever since my mum had disappeared he had been becoming more and more depressed.
"I was just... out with Kells..." I said, trying hard to think up a story.
"Oh, just 'out with Kells'," He mimicked my voice, he moved here from America before him and my mum had me so I have a different accent to him. "Do you know how inconvenient this is?" For the first time in my life, he hit me."Greenie! Wake up!" My eyes shot open and my head filled with what happened. It was only a dream, it couldn't of been real, could it? I sat up and took in my surroundings, I was in a wooden room, I was laying on a makeshift bed. I looked at the person who woke me. It was someone I hadn't met before, again. He had brown hair, brown chocolate eyes which were looking at me worriedly. "You alright?" He asked me.
"Yeah... why?" I responded, scrunching my toes up and stretching my stiff legs.
"You were crying in your sleep..." His eyes glanced at my cheeks. I wiped my cheeks with my hand, they were wet, he's right.
"It's okay. I'm okay. Who are you?" I ask.
"I'm Thomas, I'm guessing you don't know your name?" He asks, raising his eyebrows.
"My name's Cleopa. Why does everyone assume I don't know my name?"
"Okay listen, everyone here has gone through what you just have, coming up in the Box, not remembering anything about there past, except we all couldn't remember our names at first, whereas you can, and all of us are boys, but recently we've been getting girls, we've got four in total, so far we've been getting them daily. If you can remember anything else about your past or anything, we need to know, 'kay?" He says.
"Okay, I can't remember anything else right now. Where are we?"
"We're in this place called the Glade, big space of land with massive walls around. Never go outside the walls under any circumstances. The Glade has a few rules; this group of people inside the Glade, we're a family, so that's how we live, never turning against each other or anything. You earn your place here, you do work everyday so no slacking. No hurting another Glader, like I said, we need the work together to live."
"Okay."
"I'm supposed to tour you, so you ready?"
"Yeah." I stand up, stretching my arms before following him out the room..
The tour consisted of him showing me around each place, joking around and meeting people. By the time we'd done I forgot most if the names, dreading the next time I talk to them. I could remember some names, Thomas (duh), Frypan, Zart, Jeff, Clint, Chuck and Newt.
Idk about that chapter, it was more of an introduction chapter :p will get into the story more after a bit ik there isn't any romance but there is some coming ;) thoughts on Cleopa? Her dream? Her newfound friendship with thomas? - lauren xxx
