Rose didn't breathe, she didn't dare, to move would mean chaos. She couldn't see a way out of this one.
She was clinging on for dear life, the blue fabric in her grip pulled tight and shaking.
I knew this was a bad idea she thought to herself, it's the bloody hammock.
Of course, she had to choose a hammock.
"It'll be fun," Rachel had said.
"Hu, yeah, trust someone you hardly know," rose grumbled.
Rose sighed, bad move, the fabric rocked unsteadily, before suddenly twisting and throwing Rose face first into the dusty ground.
What a wonderful way to start.
"You okay down there Greenie?"
Oh god.
Rose could see a pair of brown leather boots on the other side of the hammock. Newt.
Wonderful, just bloody wonderful.Rose knew if she died tomorrow she would take two things with her:
1. Hammocks = disaster
2. Seeds belong to satan. Fact.
Knees in the mud, fingers twitching, and hair falling from her ponytail, Rose sad placing seeds in the tiny holes in the vegetable patch.
Seed. Cover. Shuffle. Seed. Cover. Shuffle, and on and on it went.
"How you finding it then?" Newt said as he finally came to join her (Rose had been waiting a while). He crouched beside her and stabbed the knife into the mud.
"Hey! Watch it! I've been slaving away here for ages," Rose grabbed the hilt and yanked it from the ground.
"Alright," newt smiled, taking the knife back.
"Well you could say I'm not too happy here," Rose wiped her cheeks with the back of her hand, leaving brown streaks like whiskers on her cheeks.
Newt snorted.
"What?" Rose asked, scrunching her eyebrows and frowning slightly.
"C'mere," Newt tried to rub the dirt off, but it stayed stubborn only making him laugh more.
"Don't laugh," Rose huffed.
"Alright, calm down," Newt grabbed her arm.
"What, my seeds?" Rose complained as newt dragged her off the floor.
He looked at Rose, her knee length sandy shorts, dark red t-shirt that was a loose fit with a thick brown belt to hold it together.
"Forget them, they're giving you hell," Newt pulled her away, towards the orchard.
"You can say that again," Rose blew a piece of hair off her face.
"Here, take your anger out," he handed her a large scythe, "hack away,"
And with that he walked away.
Well it's better than seeds.
