Maybe Love~Chapter 2~FAMILY
After the call I wasn't very calm. The beer had little effect on me so I went to the refrigerator for another one. I glared at the door as I tried to figure things out. I have to figure this out alone, and I want to figure this out alone.
I sipped my beer a little trying to concentrate. My nerves were annoying so I took out the small box in my pocket. Placing a cigarette in my mouth I reached for the lighter. Once it was lit, I sucked in. The feeling went throughout my body calming me instantly. I puffed out the smoke and tapped it with my finger. Ash landed on the carpet and I stomped it out, and continued thinking.
I should start with getting a job. I started doing the math in my head. I like beer, smoking, and being alone. What kind of job involves that? None.
I scoffed at myself for thinking this would be easy. I stood up after finishing the cigarette. I guzzled the rest of my beer quickly and the tart flavor invaded my mouth.
I grabbed my red Nike sweatshirt and slipped it over my head. I patted my short dark hair and messed it up with my fingers. My hands slid down my face and I let out a breath. I grabbed the keys to my room and my phone and put them in my pocket.
I walked out of the dorms and into the cool air. I stepped onto the side walk and the snow beneath my feet crunched. It was the beginning of winter. I put my hood over my head. I took out another cigarette and smoked it as I walked off campus. The smoke left my lips and even when I wasn't smoking, a cloud came from my mouth because of the cold.
I walked straight into town. I walked the side walks passing a lot of people that didn't notice me. I was invisible, just as I liked it. I walked into Starbucks to grab a coffee. "Excuse me, Sir?" I asked politely after the took my order.
"Yes?"
"I was wondering if you were looking for someone to hire." I said as professional as I could manage. I hate people who were professional, but that is what people want ,so I'll give them it.
"I'm sorry, Sir. We just hired two new employees and don't need any more. If you would like to fill out an application we will get to you when we need someone," the man said over enthusiastically. He was fake. I balled my fist in anger and shook my head left to right. I waited for my coffee and left. As I was walking it started to snow. Big snowflakes fell from the sky covering my sweatshirt and leaving white in my hair.
My jaw was clenched as I walked because of the faggot in Starbucks. I walked and a mom and her 3 kids were walking the opposite way as me. The mom held bags of groceries. The mom looked distressed as the baby girl cried and the toddler little boys fought. She did her best to tend to all there needs, but she failed.
I was watching this happen and all of the sudden the mom broke down in tears. She dropped the groceries and started to cry. I was just about to walk past when I felt my self stop.
"Ma'am? Do you need help?" I asked. I felt bad for the woman. She looked about 40, and was average. you would have never noticed her, but with the three crying kids it was hard to not notice. I remember helping my mom, I was always good with kids. I was the oldest of 6 kids and could handle this stuff. Kids were the only type of person that couldn't get me angry. She looked at me through her tears and gave me a light smile.
I bent down to the two little boys hight.
"Hello! What are you boy's names?" I asked as the mom got her self together.
"Tyler," one of the boys said, "and this is my twin Evan". They were adorable little guys and loved my attention. I kept them occupied for a few minutes and kept them from fighting. Soon the mom had the baby asleep in her arms and was calm.
She tapped on my shoulder and I stood up. "Thank you," she whispered.
"No problem, Ma'am," I said. I got back on the twins level and spoke to them one last time. "You boys be good to your Mom alright," i said sternly,"I have to leave now." I ruffled their hair and stood up.
"Thank you," the mom said again," I really appreciate it. I needed help. My daughter just left to go to work and she was my only help". I sent her a smile and walked away.
I walked into a little snowboard/surf shop. A girl stood behind the cash register on her phone. I looked around at the clothes, snowboard, boots, shoes, and skateboards for a few minutes before I walked to the register.
"Hello" I said as I looked at the girl. She was a little shorter then me with long brunet hair. She had green eyes that twinkled, and freckles scattered across her cheeks. She was an innocent looking girl, but was beautiful. She looked around 17 yrs old with beautiful high cheek bones.
"Hi" she said, "what can I help you with?" She said. I rolled my eyes at her fake enthusiasm. She furrowed her eye brows, and stuck her hand on her hip.
"Is there something bothering you, that you rolled your eyes for?" She said as politely as she could sass.
"Your attitude" I muttered quietly as my blood boiled. She stared at me confused and amused.
"You don't like that I am polite?" She said piling on fake and innocent. I nodded my head without emotion. She rolled her eyes making me more mad. People annoy me.
"My mom said you were 'so kind, and handsome, and great with kids!'" She said with an annoyed look on her face. I was confused about who was this girl was.
"Excuse me? Your mom?" I said with an attitude. I was still angry with her attitude but now I was confused.
"Ya. You know the lady that birthed me after having a time with my dad that-" I cut off her annoying smart ass talk and started talking.
"I know what a mom does, but what does she have to do with me?" I said annoyed. She smirked because she got me mad. I rolled my eyes at the cocky, confident, pretty girl in front of me.
"My mom is the lady who you helped today, and those 3 kids my half siblings," she said in a 'duh' tone.
A man walked out of the back of the store and the girl looked panicked before she put on a fake smile, "Now how may I help you?" She looked over to the man who gave her a stern nod of approval.
Now I had to make a decision: play along with this girl giving me pleading looks or humiliate her and continue our conversation about her mom. I sighed as I made up my mind,
"Yes, I was wondering if you had any job openings?" She smiled genuinely as a thanks and nodded her head,
"Actually we do need new employees, right Boss?" She said nervously to the man. He nodded his head and walked over to us. He was an intimidating man who looked around 40. He handed me an application and then walked to the back again.
She handed me a pen and mouthed 'thanks' before following the man. I filled out the form and it was quite pathetic how much I made up to make my self look good. Getting kicked out school needs some cover up but nothing too drastic.
The two walked back and the man spoke, "I am Aaron Silvan, the manager," he didn't reach his hand out to shake because he was all business which annoyed me, "this is Abigail Pearson. She is going to interview you today. You will both walk to Starbucks and chat. Have fun." He spoke in monotone and then walked away.
I stood there awkwardly with Abigail. "Should we go?" I asked politely. She rolled her eyes and walked out the door.
