Maybe Love~ Chapter 6~Repeat
"That will be $51.12", Abigail's delicate voice said. She handed the teenager his new snowboard boots. Her voice was mesmerizing, and reminded me of music. She was much kinder and gentle with strangers. I was sorta jealous of the strangers, because when I was a stranger she wasn't so kind. But jealous probably isn't the right word.
I was folding t-shirts and straightening coats. The store was buzzing since a lot of snow fell, and everyone wanted to get out to the slopes.
I refolded the Burton shirt and stacked it up on the shelf. I looked around studying each costumer. Every one was so different. A man who looked like he was in his late 30s with his daughter, who seemed to have him wrapped around his finger.
I rolled my eyes at the thought. Why would some one want to be so deceiving and fake?
A women with wrinkles all over but a sleek athletic body, checked out skis that were more expensive then anything I own.
A teen and his girlfriend held hands and touched each other when they thought no one was watching. They looked like an annoying couple who had their tongues down the others throat more than they talk. I rolled my eyes at this again.
'Stupid humans'.
A college looking student bought a snowboard and some gloves. The objects were very expensive and ,I think, are unnecessary.
Snowboarding is fun but I wouldn't spend $300 for a one season activity. I groaned again at our society.
Get your priorities straight. You don't need a $200 piece of plastic.
I glanced at the familiar face that walked through the door. It was like a déjà vu, her hands full of things, a baby cradled under bags, and two twins stumbling next to her.
Abigail was helping a customer and didn't notice that her family was here. I walked over to greet them, remembering the adorable twins.
"Hey little guys!" I said sticking my hand out for a low five. Both of them smiled up at me happily, and slapped my hand as hard as they could. I faked hurt after each small slap. They giggle guiltily, just like their sister. I stood straight and smiled at their mother.
"Hello, ma'am!" I smiled. These four people made me feel... Happy I guess. From the few seconds I was with them they made me feel like humans weren't so doomed.
"Oh, hello Jesse!" Abigail's mother said loudly enough for her daughter to hear. I watched Abigail's head snap in our direction when she recognized the voice.
"How are you?" I asked her politely. This women was nothing like Abigail. She was polite, real, and much more easygoing.
"Oh I'm doing great! Ryan and Evan really listened to you. After a few minutes you are already their biggest idol!" She chuckled and I politely joined in.
"Well I'm glad I could help! Now is there something you need assistance with today?" I asked. This wasn't how I normally acted, so what?
"Oh, you know just dropping off Abigail's lunch!" She grinned toward Abigail whose eyes drifted over to us ever few seconds.
"Oh nice!"
"Thanks mum," Abigail groaned unhappily, as she joined us. One of the twins pulled on my pant leg so I grabbed him. I flipped him over grasping his stomach as his head hung. His mom gasped at the upside down boy but he laughed.
Next she glared at Abigail for being rude. Abigail rolled her eyes. I set down one twin and flipped the other one. Abigail helped a customer as I continued to talk to her mother. We made small talk until a customer needed help. I politely excused myself not being fake as I do so because these kids and this women was pleasant to be around.
"How much is this helmet?" a girl with a screechy voice and a face full of make up asked me. She grinned flirtatiously up at me. I tried to hide my glare as I slapped on a smile.
"Well, that helmet says it is $46.95," I told her and then turned to wave goodbye to Abigail's mom.
She grabbed my bicep stopping me. I rolled my eyes and then turned back to her. She smiled sweetly but sickly. She rubbed her hand slowly on my arm.
"Jesse I need your help in the back!" Abigail called. I sighed out of relief. I could escape.
"Excuse me," I said to the girl.
"Bye Jesse!" She winked.
I shuddered.
When I got in the back Abigail was smiling.
"What do you need?" I asked.
"I don't need anything I was just saving you from that girl!" She said giggling.
"Oh yes thank you so much!" I said wholeheartedly.
"No problem," she said happier then ever.
"Your mom brought your lunch huh?" I teased.
She glared as her cheeks warmed.
"Yes she did. By the way can you stop acting around her she doesn't believe how big of a jerk you are," she added seriously.
"I'm not acting she is easy to get along with!" I said.
She looked at me with a a glare like I was stupid.
"I mean it!" I told her again. She shook her head and started to walk away.
