“God dammit,” I screamed in frustration. This was the second time this month my car wouldn’t start which was resulting in me being late for work. Normally my boss would understand because he wasn’t that old either but there were also the times where he would rip me a new one. “This can’t be happening.” Whipping out my phone I quickly dialed Lexi’s number only to have it go straight to voice mail. Scrolling through my contacts I stopped at the one person I knew for a fact would come to get me. I pressed call and put the phone up to my ear as I stepped out of my car. “Hey Ryder, can you come get me?”

“Your car again,” He asked not even sounding surprised.

“Yeah,” I laughed. “I hate doing this to you but I really can’t be late again. Jake will kill me for sure if I am.”

“I’ll be there in five,” He promised hanging up on me. With the first smile on my face this morning I headed back inside to wait for him. Ryder and I had been friends for all of our lives and for a little bit we had dated only to realize we were just meant to be friends. It wasn’t awkward between us or anything we easily were able to stay friends again.

A honk blasted outside in my driveway a few minutes later signalling that Ryder had arrived. Grabbing everything I needed I bounded outside and hopped into his car. “Hey shortie,” He grinned at me.

“Be nice,” I whined though I really didn’t mind when he made fun of my height. Ever since we were little Ryder had been quite a bit taller than me and decided it was his life goal to make me miserable.

I guess I had zoned out for a few minutes because Ryder grinned at me saying, “Glad to see you’re still in love with my looks.”

I gave him a flat look, “Get over yourself.” He simply responded with a laugh.

“You know, you should really get your car fixed sometime.” I looked over at him raising my eyebrow. “I’ll look at it once I drop you off at work.”

“Thank you,” I grinned at Ryder. Ever since I could remember Ryder had been in love with cars, to be able to save up enough money for college he worked at his uncle’s shop by rebuilding vechiles. It was truly amazing how much time and effort he put into it all.

“Whatever,” He laughed as he pulled up to the little coffee shop where I worked. “Now get your pretty little butt out of here before I toss you out!”

“Love you too,” I giggled but all the same I stepped out and headed to the door.

Just as I was about to pull the door to the coffee shop open to show Madelyn, one of my friends from work with a pissed off expression on her face. “You better be glad I love you because Lucas is about to rip my balls off.”

“What did you do this time?” Madelyn wasn’t really all that graceful at times but when she saw a guy she wanted graceful was definitely the word I would use to describe her with. With her bright red hair, blue eyes and smooth pale complexion she was drop dead gorgeous.

“I may have broken the coffee machine again,” She said slowly. This would be the second one she’s broken in the past month. “I didn’t mean to,” Madelyn promised when she saw my face. “I was just trying to make an espresso cause that’s what I was craving but then you know… it broke.”

“I honestly don’t know why he even bothers to keep you around.”

“I’m great in bed,” She winked at me as we walked up to the broken espresso that our boss Lucas was currently trying to fix.

“I don’t wanna know,” I muttered. Ever since I had started working here Lucas and Madelyn had been friends with benefits. The entire staff knew but nobody really cared, the oldest one working here after all was Lucas and he didn’t treat Madelyn specially compared to the rest of us.
