“I promise to never forget you,” He turned on his heel without another look at me, and disappeared out the door.
“No don’t go,” I begged tossing and turning. It was the same dream every time but yet it didn’t seem to matter how many times I had it, the effect was always the same. I didn’t quite know what this dream meant, I didn’t know who the boy was, yet he seemed familiar, like a long last friend.
With a sigh, I pushed my blankets off of me, and sat up. No matter how the dream left me feeling, I wasn’t allowed to skip school, not even for a day.

“Same dream,” Lexi asked as I sat down beside her in English later that morning.
“The one and only,” I muttered pulling out everything I needed for class. “I just wish if even for one night I could have a different dream, just maybe then I would be able to sleep.”
“Maybe you’re physic or something and by having this dream you’re trying to be told something?” She asked with a small smile on her face.
I glared at her for a second just as Mr. Brown wheeled in a giant TV in. “Today class we will be watching Romeo and Juliet.” The entire class groaned including Lexi and I. “If I hear anymore complaining you all will have to hand in two pages of notes on the play at the end of class.”
Nobody spoke through the rest of the play though you would sometimes here a phone vibrate or the rustle of paper from notes being passed. Lexi and I were in the second category.
I need your help picking out a dress Lexi wrote.
Another charity event??
Week from tomorrow was her reply. Lexi’s mother had this almost love for charity events and forced her kids to go to them with her all the time. I don’t think that it was so much about the event as showing off her kids to everybody else.
Are you doing anything after school?
Having a date with you ;) As I read her reply I simply shook my head and stuffed the notes into my backpack just as Mr. Brown got up to turn on the lights.
“See you at lunch,” I asked standing up alongside Lexi.
“Of course,” She smiled as her boyfriend Blake showed up beside her.
“Hey Amber,” He nodded at me as I waved before heading to Calculus.
People greeted me as I walked past them which I simply ignored. The only reason they were even talking to me was because my brother Dylan was extremely popular even though he graduated two years ago. Don’t get me wrong- I love my brother it just gets annoying always living in his shadow no matter where I go. For once I just want to be able to go somewhere that people don’t know me or Dylan, that way for once people would want to be my friend because of me not my brother.
“Amber Jones to the principal office,” the speaker crackled. Everyone quickly turned to look at me probably wondering what I did. Very slowly I packed up my stuff and headed out the door down to the office, I wracked my brain but I could think of anything I did wrong.
“Hello dear,” Mrs. Williams the secretary smiled. “What can I do for you?”
“I was called to the principal’s office, Amber Jones?”
“Ah yes, you’re mother has requested you to go straight home.”
“You mean after school?” I didn’t understand why she didn’t just text me this.
“No, right now,” She replied looking at a piece of paper. “She says it’s important.”
“What about my classes,” I asked.
“You’ve been excused from all of them.”
“Thanks,” I called over my shoulder already jogging out the door. I grabbed my stuff from my locker after sending a text to Lexi asking her to grab my homework for me. In a matter of minutes I was in my car and on my way home all the way thinking of what could be so important that she would pull me out of school.
It only takes twenty minutes to get from school to my place, but I got there in fifteen. I raced up the pathway as fast as my legs could take me.
“Mom,” I called out.
“Amber, come here,” She called from the kitchen. “I have someone you should see,” My mom continued when I walked into the kitchen.
Sitting at the kitchen table across from my mom was a dark haired boy- or young man. He was the one from my dream. “Who are you,” I demanded.
“Amber,” She scolded. “Where have your manners gone?”
“I must have left them at school,” I rolled my eyes. “Now who are you?”
“This is Adam,” Mom said before Adam had a chance to speak. “Don’t you remember him?”
“Should I?”
“You two-”
“It’s okay Mrs. Jones,” He interrupted. “It was stupid of me to come.”
“Oh don’t say that,” She tsk’d. “You should know by now you’ll always have a place here.”
“It’s okay,” Adam sighed. “I should get going anyways.”
“Tell the boys I say hi,” Mom smiled softly, standing up. “Come visit again?”
“I’ll try,” He promised, just as he was about to pass by me he stopped. “It was nice seeing you again Amber.”
I looked away in response. “Who is he,” I demanded the second the door closed behind him. “And don’t tell me someone I should know because that isn’t the case.”
“His name is Adam, you and him used to be best friends.”
“What are you talking about? I don’t know him!” Except from my dreams.
“Honey- it was a long time ago- maybe you’ve just forgotten him.”
“No,” I shook my head. “No, that’s not true! What kind of joke are you trying to pull?”
“This isn’t a joke,” She said calmly. “Like I said- maybe you’ve just forgotten.”
“No I haven’t. I don’t know what you’re trying to pull with this but I don’t want any part of it- just leave me alone.”
