yup, the chapters are tiny. Also, I am terrible at updating. Sorry!
I felt horrible. My mate looked terrible, all color gone from his skin that was stretched tight around his muscle. I was the worst mate in the world! I drained him dry! I tried to stop, I did! The human guy picked up my mate after he stopped sucking his blood and lay him on the bed. I curled into a ball in the corner opposite where Kyle was bound. He was a friend from a neighboring pack, and I didn't know how he got here.
I felt weird, like my insides were boiling. My head hurt, and my heart beat faster and harder than it should. I couldn't think clearly. I just wanted... more blood. Everyone else in the room quickly fell asleep, drained to exhaustion. I hurt too much to care. I hurt too much to sleep. Hours passed, or so it seemed. A familiar smell wafted across my nose and then another one.
I smiled, and soon, two men with sub machine guns came in, silent on their bare feet. I smiled at Charles and his best friend Harris. Char quickly and silently came over to me, but paused before touching me, his eyes inspecting me.
"Are you marked?" He spoke softly so as not to wake the others.
I nodded. His hand fell.
"Did you want it?"
I shook my head. He looked around and nodded. "What do I need to worry about with him?"
"He's a hybrid," I whispered back. "Werewolf and vampire. But he's weak right now..." my voice dropped into almost inaudible. "I drained him."
He nodded and looked like he wanted to hug me, but he didn't. He mind linked Harris and probably others. I watched as they captured the human and my mate, shooting them with tranquilizers when they woke. I whimpered as I saw my mate get hurt, but I stayed still. I had not marked him, so my defensive reaction wasn't as drastic as it should be. I still didn't like his pain, but I didn't HAVE TO react, so... I didn't. They hauled those two out and untied Kyle, asking him if he was okay as he stirred. Char came back to me and gestured for me to stand.
"Come on, Syd. Try not to touch any of us guys, we don't know how your mate will react."
I nodded and stood. My vision swayed as the world dipped, my throat aching in protest. I fought the feeling and forced myself to ignore it. I waved away Char's concern and walked out after them. We shifted, someone tying the two prisoners to some of my pack's backs. Once I was my dark auburn wolf, the thirst disappeared. I was hungry, though. And I wanted water. We ran, but I wasn't as fast as normal, and I couldn't communicate with my pack. My mate wasn't a part of my pack, so his mark mostly disconnected me from them.
We stopped by Peace Valley to drop off Kyle, but we couldn't stay long. Char wasn't going to take any chances with my mate waking up. I don't know how he knew my mate was so dangerous, but I wasn't going to argue. We arrived home as the sun set, and I went straight to the kitchen whilst Char and the others took the prisoners to the pack jail.
There was no one in there as I shifted and started to dig through the fridge. I found an old sandwich and wolfed it down after drinking near a gallon of water. I was going to heat up some leftover macaroni when Dad came running in and hugged me.
I tensed, feeling the blood pump through his veins in his arms. He held me to his chest, making me salivate. His heart was right there! Pumping blood! I needed blood...
"Syd, I was so worried!"
"Dad..."
He pulled back, holding me at arm's length. "What?"
He noticed my eyes locked on his throat, where I could sense the best access point for his blood. I placed the macaroni down on the counter beside us.
"Syd, your eyes..."
I tilted my head. "What?"
He stepped back, sounding scared. "They're red and yellow."
I forcefully closed my eyes to make myself stop thirsting for his blood. It didn't work. I could still hear his heartbeat getting faster and smell a scent of excited blood. Werewolves could smell fear; this was different. His fear made my thirst worse.
"Syd, are you okay?"
My voice came out raspy, "I need blood."
Even more fear spilled into his bloodstream, and I felt my body tense to pounce, but I held myself back.
"Did he do this to you?"
I nodded, everything in my body clenching and quivering in need.
"Can you stop it?"
I shook my head. Someone else came within range of my senses, and then someone else. Soon, a loud cacophony of the pack came in, excited to see me. My upper gums ached, and I licked the edges of my teeth to see if they were different. Normal sharp werewolf teeth.
Dad yelled at everyone to stay back. So much blood around me... suddenly, my ears started ringing. I couldn't hear them. My senses became overwhelmed with the scent of blood and the feel of every heartbeat around me. My eyes snapped open and focused on my Dad.
All I could do was growl, "Run."
