I woke slowly, taking in the darkness around me until I realized I could hear footsteps. These weren't the heavy footsteps of a male werewolf in safe territory, they were lighter, much more wary. I silently lowered a foot to the floor, but my toes met soft fur, not cold stone.

I looked down at Blue, who was curled up in wolf form next to my cot. I sighed quietly as his red eyes opened and focused on me. His ears flicked, which I took to mean he heard the footsteps, but he didn't seem to mind.

A pale face I only barely recognized showed itself in between the bars of our window. He grinned at Blue.

"Well, Mutt, looks like you got us in quite a pickle."

He stuck his arm in the cell.

"I know how much you enjoy pinning me, but today you have to use the wrist, K?"

Blue's eyes narrowed and he shifted to his vampiric form. He cocked his head.

"The leader of this group, her father, asked me how this all works. I told him as much as I know, and he asked me- can you believe he actually asked me- to feed you daily. Daily because then you can feed her."

Blue grunted and took his wrist, biting deeply before he sucked. What little I could see of the man's face seemed to soften in bliss until Blue stopped and licked at the wound. The man groaned and pulled his arm back out. Blue stepped back and licked his lips before turning back into a wolf and coming to my feet. I noticed that the man would not look at me.

"Since he can't talk, may I explain some things for you, Sydney?"

Blue growled slightly, but it wasn't very loud. I doubted the other man could hear it.

"What things?"

"Well, I'm half vampire, half human, we are what's called bloodbags. We naturally reproduce our blood at a rate contestant enough that we can feed a full-grown vampire daily. Neither of you are full grown, so you could both suck on me at the same time until you are satiated, and I'd still be fine. My name is Xavier, by the way."

I nodded hesitantly to say I was listening.

"Anyway, my previous master was killed by hunters, so I decided to go find my father. Now, that man was insane. Don't ask me why, but he was. Vamps tend to be loners, but he took it to whole different level. I still don't understand how I was born. So, imagine my surprise when I tracked him down and found an unnamed grave in the center of a graveyard of wolves. That's where this guy found me."

He gestured to Blue. I couldn't help but wonder what was going through his mind. He looked to be sleeping, but his nose and ears twitched just enough to dispel that idea.

"Werewolf blood is deadly for vampires, so whoever changed him died in the process. That is how I've guessed my father died, but he isn't exactly forthcoming with the details."

Blue snorted.

"I'm gonna flick your ear, Mutt!"

Blue growled but didn't move from his comfortable spot.

"How long have you been with him?" I asked.

"Oh, five years or so. We had an arrangement of sorts. I let him feed on me, and he provided food for me, though I think he saw it as a bit more than that."

I reached down and pet behind his ears, his thick blue fur slightly coarse. "You can tell by his size that he's an alpha," I provided. "He most likely thinks of you as part of his pack."

Blue looked at me and licked my knee. I took that as agreement and pet down his back. He rested his head on my lap, so I got both hands engaged.

"Pack. Okay. What exactly is going on with you two? He only touches me when feeding from me and has bitten me for trying to pet him."
