Complete Medicine Cat Treatments

Probably one of the most intricate and helpful sections of this book, this is a compilation of sickness, wounds, and other things you'll need a medicine cat for with their symptoms, treatment, and info on the herbs used to treat it. I know it has nothing to do with making characters, but I figured I should put it somewhere. Alphabetical order. Some herbs can help with other things than what they are being applied for, but I won't list it unless it's relevant to the problem listed.

Keep in mind there are many many herbs, some do the same thing. I might list a few that will do the same thing, but for instance in 'Cough' I only listed Tansy. There are a couple other herbs that also help with coughing, though.

Aches/Pain
Pretty common, happens when a cat pushes themself too hard in training, also happens to elders
Symptoms: stiff, sore, reluctant to move
Treatment: Poppy Seeds and a day of rest
Poppy Seeds: numb pain

Aching Joints
Very common in elders. Known to humans as arthritis. Caused by cold weather, damp nests, and just being old in general.
Symptoms: Joints become stiff or sore, swelling/inflammation
Treatment: daisy leaves, nettle leaves and golden rod. Ragwort leaves. Fennel.
Daisy: soothes aching joints
Nettle leaves: keeps down swelling
Golden Rod: treats aching joints & stiffness
Ragwort Leaves: treats aching joints
Fennel: helps with pain in the hips. Good for queens.

Asthma / Trouble Breathing
Can be life threatening. Breathing becomes rapid and unsteady. Can be effected by allergies and kitting.
Symptoms: trouble breathing, wheezing, rapid and unsteady breathes
Treatment: Coltsfoot and/or juniper berries.
Coltsfoot: Eases breathing
Juniper Berries: helps troubled breathing. Do not give to queens

Bee/Wasp Stings
Happens to cats who mess with bees or wasps.
Treatment: remove stinger if it is still there as gingerly as possible. Blackberry leaves, poppy seeds, dandelion stems
Blackberry leaves: Eases swelling of bee stings
Poppy Seeds: numb pain

Blackcough
Fatal. Slim to no chance of survival. The final stage of Greencough. You can attempt to treat it, but in the final stages nothing can really be done. Make them comfortable, and ease them into StarClan.
Symptoms: severe wheezing and coughing, phlegm from mouth and nose, possibly pus and blood, sweating, high fever, weakness
Treatments: catmint, feverfew, lavender, poppy seeds, water
Catmint: by this stage, none of its alternatives could help at all.
Lavender: line their nest with this, it's very relaxing and can also bring down fever
Feverfew: bring down fever
Poppy seeds: eases pain, help sleep

Bleeding
Very common, best to treat and apply something to prevent infection.
Treatment: marigold and cobwebs
Marigold: prevents infection
Cobwebs: soaks up blood

Broken Bones
Injury caused if hit by a monster, falling from extreme heights, a very severe beating
Symptoms: swelling in area, extreme pain in area, resistance to walk/run/move
Treatment: Put the bone back in place, then use poppy seeds, broom, and horsetail. Apply a splint (like a reed) afterwards. Comfrey mixed with stinging nettles has the same effect as broom, if you cannot find any broom in your territory.
Poppy Seeds: eases pain
Broom: helps mend broken bones
Horsetail: prevents infection and stops bleeding
Reed: a god, sturdy splint

Carrionplace Disease
Basically food poisoning, you get it when you eat an infected rat. It's also contagious, so keep away from infected cats! Illness is similar to green cough, but it's more dangerous.
Symptoms: troubled breathing, violent coughing fits, fever, loss of hunger, exhaustion
Treatment: borage, coltsfoot, yarrow, juniper berries, honey, feverfew
Borage: brings down fever
Coltsfoot: helps with the coughing. You can also use Tansy.
Yarrow: you can attempt to make them throw up the infected food, might not work.
Juniper berries: soothes bellyaches, gives strength, helps troubled breathing
Honey: soothes sore throats
Feverfew: helps bring down fever
