Chapter Two - Meeting the Bellwoods
It took Lucas Bellwood a total of two hours the next morning to coax me out of bed. The dreams I'd had the night before were still running vividly through my mind. The wolves, the trees, and the bright moon. It all haunted my memory the next morning and I refused to open my eyes.
"Charlotte, I can't help you unless you open your eyes and tell me what you saw." his deep, soothing voice tried to coax me. There were two other female nurses in the room but they stood off to the side, afraid that I might snap at any moment.
"Can you tell them to leave first?" I asked, throwing one of my arms over my eyes. I didn't want anyone else in the room while I told him what I had dreamed of. I already knew I was a freak. I didn't need anyone else to judge me.
Lucas murmured something to the two women and I heard them leave the room. Once they were gone, he reached out and hauled me into a sitting position.
"Now, open those baby blues of yours and tell me what's got you so scared." he demanded softly. Slowly, I opened my eyes and allowed them to sweep over the room. It was the same room I'd fallen asleep in with the boring white walls and beeping machines. I felt myself exhale a deep breath as my muscles relaxed.
"It was a wolf, a pure white wolf....."
I was standing in a dark forest. The trees loomed over top of my head, blocking any sign of the sky from me. I could hear small sounds ruffling through the leaves but other than that it was silent.
The sound of a twig snapping jolted my eyes in front of me. The fog was thick but through the mist I could see a large, giant figure. I felt a fear that was deep and evil run through my veins. My body started to shake with uncontrollable fear as the figure started moving towards me.
"Be still my child."
The sudden smooth, silky voice startled me. I swung my gaze around me in a full circle but there was nothing in the now dreadfully quiet forest.
"You must come to terms with your true destiny my daughter, your wolf is waiting for you."
"My what? Who's there?" I called out, still looking around frantically.
Suddenly a flash of lightning boomed through the quiet space and I cringed into mysef. When I opened my eyes, a startled cry came from my mouth.
Standing in front of me in a small opening of the trees was a large, white wolf. It's eyes were the color of silver and the moonlight glistened on it's snow white fur. I started to back away slowly, never once taking my eyes from the giant beast in front of me. Those silver eyes held me captive.
"You will understand soon daughter, but for now I have other plans for you."
The wolf...it actually...talked. I opened my mouth to reply but no sound came out, my vocal cords had seemed to freeze over.
"Go, fulfill your destiny my child. We will meet again."
"So what did that mean Lucas? Why was there a wolf in my dream?"
