Yesterday I met Adil and his family. They seemed like nice people, but I don't know about Adil. He seemed like he didn't want to be there, like he was forced. I mean, who wants to be with a guy like that anyway? My mom and dad loved him. They said he was what they had wanted for me, and that he was absolutely perfect for me.
As I was sitting on my bed, deep in thought my phone rang. I glanced over to my phone to see who it was. Naila.
"Assalamo Alaikum" I said, picking up the phone.
"Walaikum salam, How are you my little bride to be?"
"Ugh, stop it. I'm not sure about him." I said
"Not sure?! Girl, he was HOT!"
"Naila!"
"Lol! No, but really why not?"
"Did you see the way he was acting? Almost like he did not want to be there. He didn't even speak! I don't want someone who's being forced to be with me." I said.
"Yea, I get what you're saying. Well, mabye he's not for you. Tell your mom."
"But she loves him! She'll think I'm trying to avoid the whole marriage situation!"
"No, just say you're open to seeing other guys." Naila said.
"Ok, fine. I got to go now, I'll call you soon InshAllah."
"Ok, Khuda Hafiz!" She said.
I sat there for another hour sulking on my bed. I didn't know how my mom would react! After a while, I decided to get it over with. I really did not want to be with this guy, so I had to do what had to be done. I walked into my mom's room to see her reading a book."
"Umm, Mama?"
"Yes?" She said looking up.
"About Adil," I said, looking down. "I'm not sure I want to be with him"
"Why not?" She said, sounding a little angry."What's wrong with him?"
"Mama, I dont think he wants to marry me! I mean he didn't even talk to anyone, and you want me to spend my life with this guy?"
"How do you know he wasn't nervous?" She said. "Look, he's a well educated boy, good looking, from a respectable backround. What else do you want?"
"I dont know how religious he is. You know I look for that as well." I said. I wasn't the most religious person, so I really wanted to marry someone who was so that they could guide me, and help me become a better muslimah.
"You can make him religious" She said.
"Ughh, Mama please! Try to understand!" I pleaded.
"Ok you know what, fine. How about we look at a couple of other guys, and then you can decide of you want to marry Adeel or not. Trust me, you wont find a guy like him" She said.
Ok that was fine. I'm sure he wasn't the only well educated guy out there. There had to be someone out there that was like me. Who would help me, love me! Why was it so hard to get that? Just have faith in God I thought.
