I hitch thunder on the hitch beside Dick and Doc's horses. I see them sitting at a table, they discretely nod. I tip my head back. Other than that, they don't draw attention to themselves as they watch each and every person come in and out of the front doors to the town.
The ground here is not as cracked and hard, and in a few places there are sprouts of grass. The front double wooden doors have a sign above them that reads 'Tomas town'. The doors sway forwards and backwards slightly as the wind blows again. I make my way to them as I take a deep breath. Without feeling with my hands, I mentally check to make sure my knifes are still under my dress and my guns. I think I feel them all, so I continue into the doors.
They open with a creaking sound. And as I walk in, I am welcomed with the smell of beef and smoke. The smell is not bad, and it actually adds to the towns charm. Women bustle about, getting things done while their children play with each other close by. Some are higher class than others. Higher class men and women dressed in the latest fashions, while the lower class wear duller and more worn out clothes. Even so, the town is still very respectable, although small. Just like all towns around here. On one of the shops there is a clock on the outside wall, it says its just after noon. I take a deep breath and decide to walk into one of the shops on my left so I fit in as just a passerby.
Inside, it smells of mildew and smoke. The wood floors have gaps between the planks and they creak with the smallest of weight on them. There is one other man in here and I realize its a tailor.
"Hello miss, might I ask what you will be needing on this fine day?" He asks with a plastered smile on his face. I try to keep my smile on, but I kind of falter. I hate salesmen.
"No I was just looking." I say as I start to leave.
Before I can take two steps I hear, "were you looking for suits for your husband by chance?" He asks. I look back and say with a soft smile.
"Yes, but I will have to come back some other time. We have decided to meet at 1 o'clock. Thank you though." And with that, I leave the shop and walk back out into the smoked air of the town.
I catch sight of Billy and Chavez. They are busying themselves at a poker table all by themselves. Chavez notices me and a small smile creeps up on his mouth as if to say, I cant wait to see this.
I give him a half smile and turn around. I feel my face get hot as I think about him looking at me like that, how odd.
All at once, I feel inspiration come over me. Before, I had no idea what I was going to do but now its as if the plan was already there, just waiting for me to realize it.
Under my dress, I mentally check for my gun. I look around making sure no one is looking at. As soon as I can, I dart behind the building I was just in. Away from all the people, away from all the witnesses, I reach under my dress and pull out my gun. The bone handle feels soft against my hand. I rub my thumb over it a few times until my trigger finger finds its way to the trigger. I point the gun up into the air, take a deep breath as the wind blows once more, then I fire two shots.
