"WHO'S THAT?" Barbara asked, her books held close to her chest as Luke closed his locker. He followed her line of gaze, seeing she was glued to Michael who was surrounded by a group of hopeful looking girls that couldn't be any older than a freshman. They all twirled their hair around their fingers and had the same desperate looks on their faces.

"That's Michael," Luke grumbled, smoothing down the front of his skirt with his free hand before leaning against his locker. "I sit next to him in English. He's the new kid for the month. He's kind of a smart ass."

"With a hot ass," Barbara added, drooling over Michael. Luke bit back a remark, a little jealous of how Michael was getting everyone's attention. He was bad news. There was nothing good about him that Luke had witnessed so far in the short time of knowing Michael Clifford. He knew one thing, to be exact. First impressions don't matter as much to Michael as they did to Luke.

Luke's jealousy, wherever it came from, was short-lived as Michael locked eyes with Luke, making Luke inhale sharply under his breath. Michael smirked, making Luke blush unintentionally and roll his eyes at himself for blushing. Stupid body, he thought to himself.

"Come on." Luke grabbed onto Barbara's forearm. "Let's go to lunch."

"What was that?" Barbara teased as the two walked to the overcrowded cafeteria.

"Nothing," Luke muttered as they pushed the doors open, looking around for his boyfriend and friends. Luke saw them at their usual table, walking over with Barbara trailing behind. The table mostly consisted of the lacrosse team and cheerleaders, making it one of the most popular tables to sit at lunch.

"There's my baby!" Ashton held his arms open for Luke, to which Luke sat on his lap gingerly. Luke blushed as he looked around the table seeing Barbara and Niall already fighting over food and many of the lacrosse players laughing or talking amongst themselves and the cheerleaders. Luke felt at home at this table.

Nobody really cared about Ashton coming out. He was still the most popular and loved lacrosse player in school. So when he started dating Luke, people loved him even more. Something about Luke being wanted by many and envied by plenty.

"So did you guys hear about that new Michael kid?" Justin asked. "Heard he's a real badass."

"Doubt it." Niall shook his head.

"He's not really that badass," Luke spoke up reluctantly. "It's just an act."

"I wouldn't bet on it, Luke." Josh shrugged. "I heard he got into a lot of trouble and Sydney was his last resort before they shipped him off to a private school in London."

Luke bit his bottom lip, thinking about it. Why would someone go through so much trouble just to look cool? Luke didn't get it, and Luke got everything.

"The team and I are gonna go get some pizza after practice tonight," Ashton muttered in Luke's ear so only he could hear. "Wanna come with?"

Luke nodded, thinking back on the day just to see if he had any homework. He turned up empty and tossed his boyfriend a sweet and simple smile before continuing to pick around Ashton's lunch plate. Ashton always got two of everything, knowing that Luke had major anxiety about standing in the lunch line and also wanting to treat Luke like the princess he was.

"Barb," Niall stated loudly, "wanna go to pizza with the guys and I tonight?"

"Only if Luke goes along with us," Barbara answered politely, her blue eyes flickering to Luke's who nodded.
