Chapter 3

I pushed the door open slowly. The room was very dark, the only light that came into her room was the sunlight through the window.
Mums room was pretty basic; a bed, table and photo's of me and Natsu.

"I'm home mum, I brought you your medicine."
She smiled softly.
"Welcome home Zeref. Thank you for my medicine."
I placed her medicine and the glass on her bed table and took her medicine. She sat up and smiled.
"So Zeref, how was school today?"
I just shrugged.

"It's okay. It's really boring at school."
She giggled softly and pinched my cheeks.

"That's because you're a little genius."
"T-thanks m-mum." I said while blushing and stuttering.

Mums smile slowly disappeared.
"Zeref."
"Mm." I said while rubbing my now red cheek.

"It's you're fathers anniversary today..."
"I know mum, why are you telling me this?"

She forced a small smile on her lips.

"Because you will be celebrating two anniversaries."
I stood there shocked and confused. My eyes went wide but shrunk down instantly.

"W-what... a-are... y-y-you t-talking... a-about m-mummy? Nii-san said you would be okay?!"

I froze and slowly turned to see Natsu at the door crying his eyes out.

"Natsu, listen to me. Mum's still going to be alive okay?"
I tried to reason with him, however it just made the situation more difficult.

"N-No! Mummy said she's dying today WHY?! WHY! WHY!?"
Natsu shouted before collapsing and began to grip his head and hair in confusion.
I looked at Natsu in pity and de ja vu.

'This is exactly what I did when daddy died' I thought when tears came up thinking how much pain my little brother is in.

"M-mummy was it something that I did? I don't know what it was, but I'm so sorry just...
PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME MUMMY!"

The tears escaped my eyes and washed down my face like a waterfall. I took a quick glance at mum, which was the biggest mistake ever.

She had waterfall tears like mine, snot running down her nose, and was trembling so much.
"Natsu, baby. Come here." Mum said.
Natsu got up and ran to her at the same time crying and hugging her.

"Baby you did nothing wrong. Mummy's going to see Daddy now. So b..."
"NO!"
I jumped and so did Mum
Natsu lifted his head head up, tears still running down.
"Mummy's staying with us! You're not going to see daddy yet."

'Does Natsu know about death already at his age?' I asked myself.

Mum looked at him and kissed the top of his head.
"Sorry Natsu I have to go. Please be a good boy to you're brother."
Natsu began to shake his head, more tears coming out.

"No... *Sob* M-mummy's *Sob* S-supposed to live."
Just has mum was about to speak, she began to have a coughing fit.
"MUM!" me and Natsu shouted in unison.

I ran up to Natsu and mum and grabbed Natsu.
"Nii-san? What are you doing?! We need to help mummy. Natsu said struggling to get free from my grasp.
She began to cough out blood that both me and Natsu noticed.
Natsu was crying his eyes out, while I was trying to be strong for Natsu.

"Z-zeref, Natsu..."
We both looked up to see her face. She was deathly pale, sweat falling down her once beautiful face, dried up blood across her lips that made it look like she had a sinister smile on her face.

"I want the both of you to grow strong and look out for each other."
I nodded softly.

"I will be the best son you want me to become and will protect Natsu."
She smiled softly.

"Thank you Zeref. I will be watching you form above..."
Before she could finish her sentence her head tilts to the side, her hand falling limply and then...

Silence.
