Chapter 4

As we went past the cafeteria, it went quiet. I turned my head around and everyone was staring, whispering to each other. Shane saw me and stood up, worried. Zora looked like her head is going to explode. I turn my head back around and lay it against Colby’s chest again. One of the office ladies saw us and ran to the door to help Colby open it.

“Mr. Hanson, what on earth happened?” She asks as Colby sets me down gently in one of the office chairs.

“Zora.” He said this like it explains everything.

“Oh, I see…” Maybe that does explain everything. “Well, we know of coarse Zora did all of this, but what exactly happened?”

Colby explained to her while one of the other ladies called my foster parents on the phone. When Colby explained everything the lady went to talk to the principle.

Colby sat down. Then he looked at me and smiled. “I forgot to ask what your name is.”

“Oh yeah…um...” I got lost in his eyes. Why?! “My name is Isabelle.”

“Colby. I mean my name is Colby.” He smiled sheepishly.

“I know, ‘Colby Carrot’.”

“Oh yeah, of course.” He laugh nervously and then cursed. I laugh. I haven’t laughed for real ever since my parent’s death.

“What?” he asked nervously.

“You’re cute when you’re nervous.” He smiled mischievously. Then I realized what I just said. “I mean… um… err.”

He laughed. “Well you’re cute when you’re nervous, too.” I blushed madly as he continued laughing. That’s when my foster parents came in.

Linda came running in and crushed me in a bear hug. “Oh Isabelle, you were right. We should have kept home schooling you!”

I tried to pry Linda off me, but I couldn’t so I just gave up. “I’m fine, okay?”

“Linda give the girl some air okay?” Michael somehow managed to pry her off me.

After Michael calmed down Linda, he looked at Colby. “Who’s this?”

“This is Colby, Hanson I think?” Colby nodded his head. “He saved me from Zora.” Colby smiled at me.

“Who is Zora?” asked Linda.

Colby and I told them everything (except the part when I fall on top of Colby).

“Are you sure you can’t walk?” Michael asks for the millionth time. I nod my head.

“Okay, then I will park the car in front of the school while Linda signs out.”

“Ok.” I said.

While they did that I talked to Colby.

“You are going to be here, at school tomorrow, right?” He looked worried.

“I don’t know. Maybe…”

That’s when we saw my foster parents coming to the door of the office. The bell rang to signal that class starts in a few minutes. Colby got a pen from the counter and jotted something down on a piece of paper. Then he handed me the paper, kissed me on the cheek, and ran out the door to get to his class. I look at the paper.

“What was that all about?” Linda asked as she and Michael walked through the office door.

“I don’t know.” All I could think about was that Colby kissed me!

Michael picked me up and haled me to the car. As we drive home I look at what the paper reads. Call me. And below it was his number.
