As the noon bell rang I heard a loud explosion coming from Leo's lab. Instantly my heart leaped through my throat and I sprinted as fast as I could to the lab. When I opened the door a bit of smoke came leaking slowly into the hall.
"Don't worry, it's not toxic." Leo called out from behind his desk. I surveyed the area and saw his assistant huddled in a corner.
"What happened?" I questioned. Leo stood up and dusted his shirt off, grinning when our eyes met. My heart skipped a beat and Leo could sense the energy shift. I wanted him and by the way he was eyeing me I could bet the feeling was mutual. I only get one day off a week and that's the only time I can see him for a few uninterrupted hours.
Leo cleared his throat and walked around the desk, taking my hand in his. "Richard, this mess is your fault, I will return in a few hours to see your progress." Richard politely nodded and Leo all but dragged me out of the room. We went over our week as we walked to his room, but we both had something on our minds, something not exactly work related. Finally we got to his room and he kissed my forehead before heading to his adjoining bathroom.
I had always loved the way his room looked. It was dark and mysterious, but not in a vampiric way. More of an unknown and intriguing vibe. I sat on his huge king size bed. I decided to get completely naked while he was in the bathroom. I heard the tap shut off and then his muted footsteps against the plush carpet. He pulled the blankets of of me and I saw his eyes light up with excitement.
< Two hours later>
. "Where are we going?" I asked as we walked out of his room, hand in hand.
"Well I thought we would go down to the arena to squeeze in a couple of fights before the Shajmenrah."
"Oh, shit." I exclaimed, "I totally forgot today was Shajmenrah."
Shajmenrah was a celebration that hunters had once a year, to celebrate our ancestors and way of life. Everyone dressed in outfits costing a fortune and some hunters from different groups sometimes came as well. It entailed a formal dinner followed by dancing and booze.
As we walked into the sparring arena we heard a chorus of grunts and shrieks. The sound of the sparring arena was pretty morbid, but no one was actually getting hurt, most of the time. We shared a grin and headed to the closest empty sparring arena. We signed into the sparring list and jumped into the arena. The area around our arena almost instantaneously filled with spectators. Sure there were an even amount of males and females at the academy. But 98% of them are witches, so to see a girl in the sparring arena didn't happen everyday.
A referee came into the arena and asked if we knew the rules. We nodded and he cleared his throat.
"Ok, contestants, please shake hands as a show of good sportsmanship." I winked at Leo and instead of shaking his hand, I kissed him deeply. The crowd that had gathered started cheering and whistling. We heard the bell ring and we jumped apart, crouching low into fighting stances.
We circled eachother a few times and I decided to pounce. I ran faster than I thought I could and I feinted jumping in the air. As Leo's arms shot up, I slid across the floor and tripped him. He went down hard and before he could get his head together I jumped on top of him and held his wrists to the ground. I faked staking him in the chest as the bell rang and the crowd cheered. He had a weird look on his face, as if he were trying to piece together something in his head.
As he noticed me staring he smiled and leaned up to kiss me. I obliged and then proceeded to help him up. Before I could exit the arena a very tall very muscular guy stood in front of me.
"Can I help you? I asked.
"I wish to spar with you." The stranger announced. Leo stiffened and moved in front of me. I shook my head and motioned for him to go wait in the crowd. The stranger laughed deviously and my instincts told me something was very wrong. I checked his eyes and felt a bit relieved when I saw they were a warm brown.
"I've never seen you around here before, and I know everybody." I stated warily.
"I'm here for Shajmenrah." He explained simply. I nodded at the referee and the mysterious stranger shook my hand right before the bell rang. He growled and sank lower than most hunters did when fighting but I shrugged it off, every hunter had a unique style. We had too or else we would become predictable to our enemies.
He pounced before I could even figure out my first move and I felt my ribs crack. The referee came over and put his arm firmly in between us so the stranger couldn't advance while I was down.
Untill next time.......
