The west is Young and New;
its cities--rich and strong,
so they will make the news
if something there goes wrong.
But what about the old--
the East of drawn-out life?
Will its mournful tales be told?
Will the world hear of its strife?
What of the earthquakes in Japan?
Or the explosions in Bahrain?
Will they be known or felt by man?
Or are we blinded to their pain?
Take off your glasses and open your eyes!
There's a reason the earth is round!
Don't cave to masses--but hear third-world cries!
Death is a heart-wrenching sound...
For all human life is of worth
Both that of the rich and the poor
Whether lost in new places on earth
Or where death has trodden before.
