“He left me standing there without asking!” The high pitched and frustrated voice of Elizabeth Middleford, this time in the correct size and without the added mouse features, sounded throughout the garden.
“A case of nerves, no doubt…” came another voice in the middle of gossiping.
The murmurs fell silent however, the small form of Ciel wandering back onto the lawn, looking as though he’d just gone through hell and back.
“Ciel?” came Elizabeth’s slightly concerned tone.
“Good Lord. Are you alright?” Her father questioned, looking over his ruined attire.
Sebastian, the REAL Sebastian, rushed over to him, for some reason causing slight melancholy within the boy to rise, for reasons unknown to him. Though he did find his presence to be more reassuring than he could ever recall it being. How strange.
“What happened to you?” the butler asked, fussing around with his clothing.
“I just tripped and fell.” The boy explained in a slightly annoyed tone, gently swatting the demon’s fussing hands away.
“You look a frightful mess…” commented Frances, peering down her nose at the boy.
Ciel would have none of that however. He strode forward, towards Elizabeth, his eyes emotionless, as they always had been.
“I'm sorry, Elizabeth. I cannot marry you.” He confessed, little reason being given before he turned to Alois, who was clinging to his husband’s arm with big eyes.
“Alois...” he started, his eyes falling upon Claude for a moment before retuning to the blond, “This is my life. I’ll decide what to do with it”.
Again he glanced to the taller man, who merely peered down through his spectacles at the younger.
“You’re lucky to have my brother as your husband, Claude. I know you’ll be good to him.” his eyes flashed into a glare “I’ll be watching very closely...”.
Not a word was said from the other, yet his face paled slightly at the threat.
He then turned to Victoria, her eyes half closed and as glazed as ever.
“There’s no prince, Victoria” he said, giving her a slightly odd look, “You need to talk to someone about these delusions”
Frances is next, the boy turning and giving a slight glare in her direction.
“I happen to be quite fond of rabbits. Especially white ones.”
The fact stated, he turned to the two who had broken the secret of his engagement.
“You two remind me of some funny boys I met in a dream”
The memory was a hazy one, but it was correct.
He then glanced around, looking over the eyes that watched him silently. He felt the presence of the demon, who had moved closer to him and now stood behind him, a small smile over his face.
“You’ve left me out, Young master.”
“No I haven’t.” Ciel corrected, glancing over his shoulder with a grin, “You and I have some business to take care of.”
“The impertinence!” cried Frances.
“Shall we go then, sir?” the butler’s voice questioned, understanding exactly what this was all about.
Ciel merely turned away from the crowd, Sebastian following along behind him, before he stopped mid step.
“Oh...”
He turned back, a questioning gaze coming from the demon, and most of the party goers.
“And one more thing….”
He kicked back the flowing ripped part of his attire, so his boot covered legs were visible. A gasp of shock, and from others delight sounded as the boy attempted a brisk Futterwacken, the dance fresh in his mind from some unknown dream he had. The movements only caused a grin to appear on both his and his butlers face.
With that he turned, leaving the surprised and confused party, having better things to attend to.
Months past after the insane dream and disappointed family, the mention of it having died down to rumours and such over time.
A large ship was admired by many a visitor, Ciel himself standing upon its deck, conversing with it’s crew. The left him alone on the boards, his gaze falling to the side of the boat where his butler stood, making last checks over the contents of the boy’s luggage.
“Hey...”
The demon glanced up, meeting the boys unamused gaze.
“Are you going to stand there all day or are you going to get on board?”
Sebastian’s indifferent look transformed into a small smile, as did Ciel’s as well.
Soon the two stood side by side on the deck of the boat, the sea breeze filling the air with a salty taste and a cold wind.
A single butterfly floated happily around them, landing upon the young earl’s shoulder. It caught his attention, a smirk appearing across his lips.
“Hello, Absolem...” he greeted it.
With that, it took to the cloudless sky, Ciel’s eye following it as it soared high above them, into the brilliant blue air….
