Wednesday overheard her parents talking through the tunnel. She'd heard enough when her she her cousin mentioned going to the police. Right before she could leave , though, she heard her father accept a duel. Racing up to her room, she popped out of the secret passage in the wall.
Pugsley jumped when he saw his little sister appear out of thin air. "Wednesday!" He gasped. "Where did you come from?"
"That's not important," Wednesday replied darkly. "Father's going to entering a duel later today and he's likely to get himself killed."
"But he and Mother always duel," he reminded her. "She's never killed him."
"It wasn't Mother to whom I was referring to," Wendesday snapped. "It was cousin Vlad."
"Cousin Vlad's going to duel father?"
Wednesday rolled her eyes, wondering why she had such a pea brain for a brother. "Yes. And he's probably very good."
"What do you propose we do?"
"Simple, dear brother," Wednesday said, pulling out all sorts of fear from under her bed. "Sabotage."

"Gomez," Morticia whispered as she watched her husband practice on one of their suits of armor. She was nibbling on her index finger nail- a habit she thought she broke a long time ago- terrified of the end result of the duel.
"Yes, Querida?" Gomez asked, turning to her and putting down the sword. His face formed one of concern, when he saw how anxious she was; quick as a whistle, he sat down beside her. "Tish, are you okay?"
"No," Morticia admitted, struggling to keep herself composed. She knew she was a total mess, but she had to tell her husband how she truly felt about this duel business. "I'm terrified Gomez. It's not just me that needs you, but the children as well. They need their father..."
"Cara," he said, embracing her tightly. "It'll be okay, Tish, you'll see. You won't lose me..." he pulled back slightly and wiped the tears from her eyes. "If I don't show Vladimir the lengths I'll go for my darling wife, then he's likely to try and claim you again."
Morticia shook her head. "He can try, but my love is for you alone. Nothing he does to will change my feelings for you."
"Isn't that sweet?" A voice chuckled from behind them. Morticia gasped and nearly fell from the bench she was sitting on. Gomez's grip tightened around her just slightly.
"What are you doing here, Vlad?" Gomez demanded, stroking Morticia's back to calm her down.
"Somebody forget to tighten the ropes," Vlad said softly, his gaze going directly for Morticia. "So, after giving you an hour of practice and mourning- because I will kill you, Gomez- I broke free."
Morticia made sure not to make any sort of eye contact with Vlad, but she still couldn't keep her body from trembling. Gomez continued to try and take away her fears by caressing her long coal hair. "Choose your weapon, Sir," Gomez ordered, picking up Morticia and placing her on the staircase, so that she wouldn't get hurt in this mess.
"These sabers will do," Vlad called picking one of them up, while throwing the other at the couple. "To the death, then?"
Morticia looked at Gomez worriedly, wanting him to call it off. However, she should've known better than to ask for that. Her husband picked up the blade and saluted Vlad. "To the death."

Wednesday and Pugsley raced to the balcony just above where the duel was taking place. "Ready?" Wednesday asked, just as the duel began.
