Alex's POV:
"We need these, ooohhh and this too. We most definitely need that."
"Are you sure we shouldn't just buy the entire store." I mumbled under my breath, quickly shutting up after Lucy turned around glaring at me.
"We have to make sure everything is perfect before the baby's born!" She said, sounding offended.
"Yeah yeah, sorry love" I try to calm her, placing a kiss on her temple.
"That's what I thought" she exclaims, going back to shopping.
What am I going to do with her, I laugh to myself, diligently following after her as she moves from one side of the store to the other; well more like waddles. Who knew she could have so much energy this far into the pregnancy.
This is the fifth time we've been in here yet every time we come she always finds something new to buy. I'll end up going broke before the baby even arrives.
The baby, our baby, the thought of her holding our child always brings a smile on my face. Seeing her bump does something to me, it's like I'm falling in love with her all over again.
I can never have enough of her, her whole existence brightens my life. And now with the baby on its way, I can only imagine how different our lives will be. I know Lucy is as happy as ever, every time we talk about the baby her whole face just shines with adoration.
"Excuse me sir, are you finding everything ok?"
I look down and see an employee looking up at me, breaking me from my thoughts.
"Oh no I'm fine, I'm just looking around with my wi-" I turn to look at Lucy but find the spot next to me empty.
"Lucy?" Shit! Where'd she go.
Eyes wide, I turn and run around the store, leaving behind a confused sales person but at the moment I could care less.
"Lucy sweetheart, where are you?" Nothing, I hear absolutely nothing in response.
My mind starts going crazy with all the different scenarios that could have happened. What if someone noticed she was a mutant and decided they didn't like that? What if she fell and hit her stomach? Suddenly I stop going cold, what if she went into labor and im not there to help her?
No she has to be around her somewhere, I tell myself, continuing my search.
"Alex" I hear small voice call out.
I immediately run to were I heard it come from and find a shivering Lucy, her back facing me.
"Are you ok?! What's wrong?!" I ask her, turning her around to face me. Inspecting her all over.
She seemed completely fine, which caused me further confusion to why she was crying.
"Lucy baby what's wrong?"
"... Look at this baby sock, it's so small" she squeaks out.
The breathe I had been holding comes rushing out. I swear she'll be the death of me.
"Can you imagine?" She continues, bringing my attention back to her.
"Our baby's feet will be this small." She cooes. A small, loving smile gracing her face.
I cant help but smile back, holding her close to me, breathing in her scent.
"Only a few more weeks and we'll meet him" I whisper in her ear.
She looks at me with the biggest eyes and gives me a broad smile that I love to see.
"Only a few more weeks" she whispers back.
I kiss her forehead and grab hold of her hand.
"Come on, lets buy these socks and the rest of the stuff that's in the cart and head home."
"Yeah let's" she says, hugging my arm as I lead her back to where I abandoned our cart.
"Oh! Look at that! Alex can we get it?!" She asks even though she's already waddling over to what she saw.
"Yup, most definitely going broke."
