The light of dawn hit San Francisco Airport like a wave once it revealed itself. Slowly this sleepless night began to fade. The floors began to boom with life again, echoing announcements going on, and the fight left within me to remain conscious began to get more difficult with each passing second. It had been a week since I blew up the Mustang in the middle of Denver.
A week since I killed myself.
Daniel sat next to me, reading the book I bought him in Nevada, realizing that I wasn't one for talking especially when he kept watch. He told me that I could snooze off, but I knew better.
The demon thought I was dead, but who knew for how long? How would he react?
Daniel had smirked and shook his head, mentioning that he'd go on a rave, ''Demons don't like being fooled by their possessions. They might enjoy the hunt, and the game, but not when they aren't in the knowing of everything. It won't be happy, and for now, we better stay in the shadows.''
Those were his last words before he rambled off, and fell back into his book, leaving me exposed to falling asleep. Families rushed by, toddlers tugging on the pants of their fathers and craving for attention. The mothers would sweep them up into their arms and twirl them around, making the children giggle in return. Such a beautiful sound that was; a child's laugh. How innocent they were. It made me bite my lip to hide the tears when I pressed my lips together to keep the tears from returning.
But I couldn't cry anymore, I didn't have much of a heart left after having Ryan and Laise taken from me. The world had been a blur that night. I hardly remembered details of it. Only certain scenes, their cries, my cries, my struggling to fight what held me back before I crumbled in those arms. Who had held me back?
It made me furrow my brows, because I didn't have any memory of my father being there. No. He had been shoving out extra hours in the clinic. My mother hadn't been there either, because I remembered calling her after the firefighters and police rushed in.
Nevertheless, there had been a whisper, just a few words. My mind raced through the file of that last night, but all I could remember was the crying, the screaming, the fire, those arms holding me back. It was all I could remember, and those words, undetectable to my hearing. I knew that they were somewhere within me, engraved, forcing me to never forget.
What could those words have been? What were they? I needed to know! I had to find out! Who could've held me back from going into that fire? The blazing inferno that took my heart and scorched it to ashes? Who would do such a thing? Why?
I dug my fingers into the roots of my hair when I leaned forward from the seat I sat in next to Daniel. He glanced at me from the corner of his eye, worry shadowing in his gaze when he furrowed his brows and drew in his lips. I shook my head and stood up, muttering as I pulled my hair into a ponytail,''I have to stand up and get something to drink. Do you want anything?''
Daniel shook his head when his expression softened and he looked up at me, his lips parting as if to say something. However no sound came out and he pressed his lips together,''Forget it, go. Don't worry about me. I'll call for you if our plane is announced.''
