Chapter 1-The 'Fantastic' Four
Bright light streams into my room, as I groan and pull the covers over my head. Today is the first day of school for me. And it sucks being the new student.
I squeeze my eyes shut, trying to shut out the bright light that still seems to shine past my covers and eyelids. I feel a cold draft and I slowly open my eyes, and see my Mum standing there, holding my white soft duvet in her hands. She smiles at me mockingly, her brown hair is tied up in a pony tail, wearing jeans and a red t-shirt. Unlike her, my eyes are brown while here are blue. My brother, Jared, also has her blue eyes while I'm a daddy's girl.
"Wake up sleepy head. You have half an hour to get ready." She dumps the duvet back onto my bed in a messy pile, and walks out of my room. I let out another groan and slowly get up. I brush my teeth and take a quick shower, before pulling on what I call 'Aubries style' of skinny jeans, today dark blue, a black tank top with a purple checkered shirt with the sleeves rolled to elbows, and my black converses. I put on a little bit of make up, and tug a brush through my brown wavy hair. I grab my bag from my desk and haul it over my shoulder while running down stairs.
"Took you long enough. Now grab some breakfast and off you go with your father. I made an effort in cooking breakfast today." Mum says, a grin on her face. I tug on a fake smile. One thing I know about my mother, is that she can not cook. Not at all. Zilch. In all honesty, she's absolutely useless in the kitchen.
"Okay mum." I choke out. I grab what I think might be toast and take a very small bite of it. I try to wrinkle my nose in disgust. It tastes like rubber-how is that even possible? Maybe the bread is different to the ones we had in New Zealand.
"I better go mum. I don't want to be late! Is dad in the car?" I say, sneakily sliding the rubbery toast into the bin.
"Yes, he is. Your brother will be picking you up today, remember that. Good luck sweetie." She plants a kiss on top of my head, and I start to walk out of the house. Pulling the door behind me, I slide into the car, buckling myself in.
"Did you try the toast?" I ask my dad.
"Yup. How does she make it so rubbery?" He says, shaking his head and pulling the car into drive.
"Who knows." I say, looking out of the window.
"Did you try the egg?" I look over at him and shake my head. "Lucky you." He mumbles and I let out a laugh. "I'm going to have to drop you off quick okay. Gotta get to work." I nod. My dad is a cop. And one day, so will I, I hope.
We pull up to school, and my stomach bursts with butterflies. My hands start to get clammy, and I run them down my jeans to wipe off the sweat.
"Hey, Bree. Calm down. It will be aright. You know your brother. Everyday, on the first day of school, he comes to you at lunch times." We both share a look before laughing. He did do that. I don't know about this time though. "Just go in their, and into the office. grab your schedule and ask someone on where to go. Simple as pie! Now go." I slowly hop out of the car, slinging my bag over my shoulder. I give my Dad a small smile as he drives away. Okay Aubrie, you got this, I say to myself. I look around and see people talking near cars, some skateboarding in, or some in motorbikes. I look up to Ridgefield High, and see its about 4 stories high.
