I dragged my feet as we slumped out of the house. The moon shone brightly and the stars twinkled, but I was still depressed.

"Sorry I got mad at you in there, I just saw Tess and you and thought you knew about it and-" she cut me off "It's ok I forgive you, I should have seen Tess or at least looked for her there." She didn't look me in the eye as we talked- strange. I sighed, wanting to cry.

"I'll call some friends we can stay at a hotel or something." said Veronica. I nodded. She spoke on the phone and soon a dark grey truck pulled up. A muscly guy smiled tightly as he opened the door for me. I looked around, uneasiness clawing at me. Tinted windows, dark van, and people I didn't know. Something felt fishy, and I wasn't waiting around to find out. I was taught not to get into strangers's cars and I think that could apply here. "Actually I change my mind. I'll just sleep out under the stars tonight, see you later Veronica!" I spoke casually and began to walk away "No, come on you'll feel better once you're in a warm bed!" called Veronica. I broke into a sprint. "Dammit, get her." I heard someone shout.

I ran as fast as I could and tried to get away. They were catching up on foot and I bet there was that truck on the street too. I came to a dead end in a concrete corner. I heard feet pounding the ground not to far behind me. I was trapped. Panicking, I looked around me for something I could use to defend myself with. I found a glass lemonade bottle on the ground. I smashed it in half and grabbed the smooth edge, and pointed the jagged side as my opponent came forth. I tried to stab them but it didn't do anything. They punched me and I almost fell to the ground. I swung and tried to bite them but they knew how to stay away from me while still hurting me. I finally cut them with the bottle and saw them start to bleed. When the sharp glass made contact, blood sprayed my top. Disgusting.

We were fighting for a few more minutes before I started running again. We ended up by a highway. I had no clue where this highway was, it felt as though the last 5 minutes were a blur. I had lost the bottle, so I grabbed a stick and started swinging. I got a good hit and they were near the ledge towering over the highway. I could kill them. I could push them off the ledge and run. It could mean I'd live and I could find Tess, but I only have a second to decide. I let my instincts take over my body. My opponent was trying to hurt me. I lunged and threw them off the ledge to their death... I was a murderer, but I was also justice.

For the first time, their hood flew off revealing their face. He looked about 16 years old. He had short brown hair and glasses. He was definitely working for someone. He had physical skill, but was foolish to not to carry a weapon. That meant "the brains" were waiting for me somewhere. For a moment the world froze and it was just me and him above the stampede of cars. I couldn't help but to let out a little scream as he tumbled to his death. The last thing I saw was his terrified face, pleading at me, as if I could still save him at that point. He was going to die. I couldnt lie and say to myself that he might live. I was smarter than that. Even though I was protecting myself, I still had murdered somebody. I looked away so I wouldn't have to see him splat onto the highway. I sprinted away, tears streaming down my face. I kept telling myself that that had been the only option left, that if I had died, Tess would have died too. That thought didn't help.

I ran for what felt like years and years. Wind blew through my hair. I had blood stained hands that would never wash off. I stopped mid run. My blood ran cold, I was looking down the barrel of a handgun.
