“So, what is your story miss Sadie?” casually asked Veronica as we walked down the lonely street. “Well, when my parents were declared dead with no sign of their bodies, I got really mad and I kicked a police officer in the nuts”.We laughed for two minutes at that comment. I’d hardly realized how funny that was. “Yeah, he was pretty mad at me but at least now he won’t have to deal with kids!” We chuckled a bit more .“I ran off hoping to get somewhere. I just want to survive. Being homeless was nothing new to me but at least before it was better” .“Before the fire?” asked Veronica. I nodded and continued. “My family and I were interesting. We all had the same brown hair. Now it is all tangled and it has mud in it though.” “I could always help you with that” Veronica interrupted. “But it matches my face and hands!” We laughed again for what felt like forever.

Suddenly, Tess started whimpering at something. "What's the matter? Timmy fell down the well?" Veronica laughed. "Hey!" I hissed playfully. “What's up?" I looked over at Tess as she ran to a hedge and started barking fiercely, Night by her side. They barked, hissed and growled at a dog. It was a huge, German Shepherd. It was sad to see a dog trained to kill and protect his house. "Cinna, down" called Veronica. "Sorry, that's my guard dog." Her guard dog stopped immediately and her dog was absolutely adorable! I stared up into the house, it was white with gray outlines. A beautiful golden door was on the front and back. Green, one inch tall grass with no bald spots. Blue, pink and purple roses were in the garden. "They are dyed cause we use colored water for each rose. Do you like my house?" she asked me. "Amazing" I breathed. I was green with envy but I loved the way the house was like a diamond shining perfectly. “Sorry, my parents won't want company right now.” I nodded and we continued to town sqaure.

I looked into a store and read the clock. “So, what are we doing?” Veronica asked. “Waiting for the garbage truck, and then getting a ride there.” She nodded and we waited on a bench. Soon the truck came by. It pulled to a halt then they jumped out and grabbed the garbage can and dumped it. I got up and lifted a finger, indicating Veronica to stay. They moved slowly. I nodded, then ran and jumped onto the edge of the truck. Tess jumped up beside me and I stroked her ears. Soon it sped up and we were on a highway. Veronica held on to me scared, I was not surprised because I was like that my first time too. I jumped off as the truck slowed. Tess was right beside me and Veronica stayed on. I waved my arms at her. I ran and Tess ran just in front of me. She jumped on the truck with Veronica and started barking at her. She fell off and Tess jumped down beside her. I ran and the truck stopped and dumped the load in the landfill. I rolled Veronica over and saw she only had scratches and was hardly bleeding. I helped her stand up and soon we were in the dump.

I wrapped some fabric around her knee, and she stood up again. There ware seagulls everywhere and paper flying in the wind. I started picking up cans and bottles. “Can't Tess help?” asked Veronica “I’ll try to teach her sometime”. Veronica sighed but nodded. I soon found some used garbage bags and I grabbed some. “Veronica! I found bags!” She was sweating as she ran. “We’re using those?” she asked sighing. I nodded and emptied my bag. Soon mine was half full and Veronicas was a quarter full. I motioned for her to dump her bottles in my bag and she did. I threw it on my shoulder and all of us walked back to the bottle depot, but we only got 17$ from our hour of effort.
