Chapter 5-The Attic

I had always hated the dark. The thought of something lurking in the shadows getting ready to take you didn't seem that pleasant.

Luckily, Dad had fixed the lights in the attic the other day since we were converting one side of it into a game room. We were planning to covert Cameron's room but he'll probably never move out.

I made my way up into the attic and switched on the light. There was dust everywhere. The attic was split into two. One side had been painted red by Aubrey, Avery and I and the other side was for storage. Dad had a wall between the two sides so the storage things wouldn't get in the way.

Charlie had said that the Box had Moving Things #3 on it. I walked over to the storage room and opened the door to the small room that was crammed with our things.

One question had run through my head. We had never moved, so why would we need moving things? This house was Grandpa Reese's house until he died, then it got given to Dad.

I continued looking for the box and I soon found it at the back. It was sealed shut with tape which was hard to rip off.

"Crap." I whispered as I cut my finger. The blood dripped down it and onto the floor. Nobody would notice though. Nobody really came in here.

I finally opened the box and all it contained was old cloths. The cloths were gold and they had small Sapphires dotted on it. They look expensive but they I had no interest in them. I just wanted to find this box that Charlie had told me about.

I lifted the cloths out of the box and I saw it.

It was beautiful. It was bright gold and it had small Sapphires spelling out the initials PS. I lifted it up carefully and began to open it but it was stuck.

I looked around to see if there was any indication of how to open it and there was a message on the back.

'To open the box, you must know the lost,

To be her blood you must be her love,

Know her truly, know her dear,

Even if time has disappeared.'

Blood, that's what I need! But where could I put it? There was a small hole in the front of the box so I rested my finger over it. The blood was still dripping from my finger from the cut I had received earlier. A small drop fell in and the lid of the box lifted up slightly.

I opened the box slowly and saw what was within. Two journals and a necklace. The journals look old while the necklace looked brand new.

I opened the first journal that had the least amount of damage. The pages were covered in small, neat writing like mine. Exactly like mine.

'This is the diary of Princess Ivory of the Gold. Started on the 5th day of the 7th month of this year.'

Who was Princess Ivory? She sounded like an important person but I had never heard of her.

I put the journal back into the box and then made my way to my room. I opened a private tab that would enable anyone from seeing my history. I typed in her name and nothing came up. If she was a Princess, and an important one, then her name should have came up.

I began to read through the journals again.

"I have started this journal for I have been captured. Taken away to a land I do not know by a witch. Juio is her name. Before she took me I informed one of the protectors of the name I used on earth whenever I visited. My name on earth is Payton Embre and I have always used it.

I have missed many people in my capture. My Mother and Father, whom I know will be looking for me. My siblings; Tritan, Lilah and Kialias. The man I love the most. He is powerful and strong and I love him with all my heart.

I am expecting a child. A child I know will be taken away from me by Juio. My child will be a girl, I know it. I shall call her Ember. Princess Ember of the Gold. The man I love the most is the Father of my child. He doesn't know, as I never got the time to tell him.

Juio will take away my child and give her to the Draconi's as they are her most trusted family. They lived near enough to me on Earth. They gave birth to twin girls a couple of years ago. One more girl would not be much of a burden. Their Overlord will be happy that a child of the gold is in their reach."

I looked down at the piece of paper in shock. Who is this woman? Why did Charlotte want me to find the journals? I typed in Payton Embre and waited for the page to load.

'Payton Embre disappeared and was pronounced dead on the 21st of April 1995." The web page said. I clicked into it and read more.

"A woman known as Payton Embre was found missing from her Apartment in downtown Miami. A concerned neighbour called the police as she (Payton) hadn't been seen in days. A search party was sent out but she wasn't found and presumed dead.

She was presumed to be a French tourist staying in Miami for a month while she took a break from her university life. Officials say that she could have be abducted but they cannot do anything as she was missing days before anyone noticed.

She was described as tall with short blond hair and piercing gray eyes. She was wearing a pair of shorts and a tank top when she was seen. She was known to always carry a book with her as she went around her daily life. If you know anything about her disappearance then please call the Miami state police."

I read it again and again, wondering what this meant. It doesn't say she had a kid or even a family. I looked again to see where she lived.

 34 Apollo Apartments, downtown Miami.

I quickly wrote down the address and logged off the computer. I got my my satchel and my coat and put the box containing the journals into my bag. I lifted up my mattress and pulled out the wad off money I had saved for a rainy day.

I locked the house door and made my way down to the main street where the Taxi's all waited. I leaned in the door of one and smiled at the driver.

"Could you drop me near the Apollo Apartments in Downtown Miami?" I asked.

"Sure, hop in." He replied.
