On Friday, I walked into my last class of the day, Japanese culture. I have no idea why I was taking this class but I guess it sounded kind of interesting. As usual, I took a seat in the back, this time next to a tall guy with blonde hair.
As I sat down, he looked up at me, "Hi! I'm Jonah!"
The excitement in his voice surprised me.
"Hi, um... Skyrah" I said, shaking his hand.
"Skyrah, hmm... Fierce, I love it!"
At that, I blushed. Probably because I felt anything but fierce. "Oh. Uh... Thank you," I said with a small smile. Damn I could feel the awkwardness radiating off this conversation. But none of it seemed to phase Jonah.
After a beat he asked, "what year are you?"
"First year, you?"
"Second. I remember what the first week was like as a freshman... It
The professor then called the classes attention to the front of the class by jumping up and down and waving his hands. Jonah looked at me and chuckled "did that really happen?"
"I think it did" I smiled back.
"This class should be... interesting."

After class, Jonah and I walked out together. He was talking about our professor as we walked across campus.
"If all of my professors were like that, I might actually enjoy lectures. What if..."
He was cut off when a girl with purple hair ran up behind him and jumped on his back.
"Jonah, can we please go home I am so done with this whole 'learning' thing" the girl said through a giggle as she tried to stay on Jonah's back.
Instead of pushing her off, he grabbed her legs and helped her get a better grip. "Hell yeah, let's go"
"Oh, and this is Skyrah, she's in my Japanese class, which by the way, has a batshit crazy professor"
The purple haired girl jumped off his back and offered me her hand "I love that name!" Jonah shot me an I told you so look. "I'm Carly. Hey, do you want to come over to our apartment? We were going to watch movies and order Chinese food."
A little too excitedly, Jonah added, "Yes Skyrah! Come!"
I looked down "um that sounds like a lot of fun... But I should probably just go home"
Jonah looked disappointed "But it's Friday! Just one movie?"
His pleading voice made me feel almost obligated to say yes.
"Okay, one movie."
~~~
I never really liked romantic comedies, I would much rather read these stories. But, Jonah and Carly's commentary made it almost enjoyable.
"Okay, not cool. NOT COOL. Real humans do NOT act like that" Jonah would say.
And Carly said, at least three times, "Oh god, I would SO fuck Josh Duhamel given the chance." And I can't say I disagree.
In any case, I laughed a lot with those two, something that I hadn't done in a long time.
When I got back home, it was only about 8, but I was exhausted. As I was heading to my room to get ready for bed, the doorbell rang. Maybe it was the neighbor, she came over last week, needing laundry detergent. But when I looked through the eye hole, I saw deep blue eyes.
What was he doing here?
