Celeste stood still, her body frozen in fear, Willow next to her, a similar shocked expression on her face. A monstrous shadow loomed above them, blocking the sun. It had taken Raleigh hours to convince Willow to even step foot near the ocean, much less to lay on the beach, vulnerable. Celeste was having trouble as well, but she knew that her fear was unreasonable. Or more so, she had thought that her fear was unreasonable.

Somewhere in the span of a few hours, Raleigh had disappeared, and they had been searching for him when the waves parted and the giant beast broke through. Their heads turned towards the churning ocean, a knowing fear in their eyes. When the monster let out a familiar battle cry, they knew that it was all over. With wide eyes and open mouths, they watched the beast make its way towards land, the ground shaking with every move. Each muscle in their bodies told them to move, but it felt as if they were being held down by lead weights, fear rooting them in place.

Never before had Celeste felt so hopeless. But there was nothing she could do to stop the beast from destroying her city. The jaegers had been decommissioned, all except Striker and Gipsy. Barracuda was locked away, its pilots vowing to never step foot in another jaeger again. Now, they regretted their decision, wishing wholeheartedly that they could stop the kaiju. Instead, Willow reached for her sister's hand and they both shared small, knowing smiles. At least they were together. Their eyes fell shut as they accepted their fate, waiting to be crushed or eaten. However, the drumbeat of footsteps came to a stop at least twenty feet away from the sisters and was replaced by the grind of metal pieces sliding into place. They looked up to see Gipsy standing above them, it's arm out in front of it, the plasma cannon warming up. However, before they could get the shot off, the kaiju leaped forward, it's speed uncanny. It had been so long since Raleigh and Mako had piloted that their movements were slow and jerky. In a flash of movement, the kauji had clamped its large maw around Gypsy's left arm, violently shaking its head from side to side in attempt to pull the arm off at the elbow joint. Celeste broke out of her stupor, realizing that Mako and Rals were inside of the Jaeger. She ran forward as the Kaiju whipped around and stuck the barb of its tail into a break in their armor. Celeste watched in horror as the section of Gipsy's arm fell into the ocean, leaving the jaeger reeling. Before any of them could react, the kaiju bellowed in triumph and chomped down on Gipsy's head, breaching the Conn-Pod and tearing the top half of it off. Screams echoed through the air as the two pilots were pulled out and left dangling in mid-air. Celeste opened her mouth to scream, now running towards the battle, but as she moved, so did they. Every step forward was countered by them moving back. As if in slow motion, the Kaiju brought Mako and Raleigh towards its gaping mouth.

"Raleigh!" She yelled just as she was enveloped into the sea, spiraling through the inky black waters. She thrashed about trying to swim back to the surface but was instead pushed down by a strong pair of hands.

"Celeste! Wake up!" Someone cried out from the darkness. Slowly, Celeste's eyes fluttered open and she sat up, taking in her surroundings. Her breathing was erratic and her skin was slick with sweat. Raleigh wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her to his side of the bed. She fell against him, still shaking from the vivid nightmare.

"Fucking hell Celly." He muttered, intertwining his fingers with hers and bringing her hand up to his lips, pressing a chaste kiss to the back of her hand.
"I'm beyond done with these nightmares Rals."

"I know. What was it this time?" He asked. It had become a routine, them discussing their dreams, particularly the bad ones. Both of them knew how bad it was to hold all of that fear in, so they tried to be each other's comfort, as they should be.
