Connor's POV
"Shh, it's gonna be okay," I say quietly, rubbing Kasie's back and pulling her hair back as she hacks and vomits up everything in her stomach.
"No it's not," She gets out before coughing and vomiting up a little bit more before she takes a breath and flushes the toilet. I offer a small smile and leave the room to get Skylar up for school.
"Sky," I whisper into her dark room. "Time to get up," I flip on the lights and go to gently shake her awake.
"Ahh," She groans as she's met with bright lights.
"Time for school."
"Ugh, fine," She grumbles, stumbling out of her bed to her closet. I exit her room and go to make her lunch and check on Kasie. I see her sitting at the bar, head on her hand, half asleep. I kiss her temple and turn on the coffee maker after putting the right amount of coffee beans in.
"Babe, wake up," I joke light-heartedly as I make Skylar's lunch; Kasie drifting in and out of consciousness. I'm met with a grumble so I just roll my eyes and drop the subject. Skylar comes trudging into the kitchen rubbing her eyes. She grabs her cereal from the pantry and places it on the counter for me. I pull a bowl from the cabinet and fill it with just enough cereal for her and place it on the bar, grabbing the milk from the fridge and pouring some into the bowl. I grab a spoon from the drawer, and place it next to her bowl, going to grab a small glass from the cabinet to pour orange juice into it. After filling the glass, I place it in front of her. I grab two mugs from a different cabinet, and pour coffee into them. I put the correct amount of creamer and sugar into Kasie's mug, and place it in front of her. She mumbles a thank you, and sits up straighter in a failed attempt to wake up. Even when we were dating, and she had to get up early for one of her classes, it still took her a good hour to wake up and function properly.
"Sky go brush your teeth and get your stuff for school," I say once she had finished eating.
"Okay," She mumbles, putting her empty bowl and glass in the sink, going in the direction of the bathroom. A few minutes later she appears with her backpack on and shoes and socks in her hand. She sits on the couch and puts her shoes on as I pull her lunch from the fridge and place it in her backpack.
Kasie is still at the breakfast bar, half asleep still but her coffee is gone. "I'll be back in a bit," I kiss her lips lightly after I grab my keys from the rack that sits in the corner of the bar connected to the wall. I grab my wallet and phone, putting my wallet in my back pocket and walking to the garage, Skylar following close behind after telling her mom bye.
---
"Bye Sky, have a good day. I love you, " I tell her as she gets out of the car once I'm in front of her school.
"Bye Daddy, love you too," She says before shutting the door and racing off toward the entrance of the school. I watch as she gets inside, greeting the teacher waiting by the door before driving off.
I get home a short twenty minutes later. I place my keys and wallet on the counter before stepping into the living room. I frown sadly when seeing Kasie with her knees pressed lightly to her chest in my black Nordstrom hoodie with the hood up and a blanket wrapped around her body, her arms wrapped around her legs, staring straight forward at a blank, turned off TV.
"Awe babe," I mumble, stepping toward her and sitting next to her. "How are you feeling?" I ask.
"Like crap to be honest," She mumbles.
"What hurts? What's bothering you?"
"My head hurts, my stomach hurts, I can't keep anything down. Five minutes after you left I threw up, and I'm exhausted. I barely slept last night," Kasie admits tiredly.
"I'm sorry babe. I wish you didn't feel so terrible," I say, not knowing what else to say. She doesn't reply so I place my hand on her knee, slowly letting it drop as I went to the kitchen to see if there was and ginger ale and saltines she could have; a remedy my mom used on my siblings and I if we got sick and couldn't hold anything down. I don't find anything so I go to the counter and pick up my keys and wallet from where I left them.
"Kas," I say. "I'm going to the store to get you some things that could help your stomach. I'll be back in twenty minutes. Call me if you need anything," I tell her from the kitchen. I hear an almost inaudible 'okay' from the living room.
---
"Here, drink this," I slide a small glass full of ginger ale toward Kasie. She hadn't moved from her position at all, still in a semi-tight ball with her knees up to her chest and her arms loosely around her legs. She had the hood down now and looked at me with an almost pleading look. I was sat on the floor between the couch and the coffee table.
"Kasie, please. I'm trying to help you. Just drink this," I almost begged. "You know I wouldn't give you anything to harm you. I promise it'll make you feel better." She looked back and forth between me and the glass before finally picking it up and taking a small sip.
I'd placed a package of saltines on the table. I took it and opened them, taking a cracker out. I held it out for her. She shook her head no.
"Kasie, please." She shook her head no again. "I'll give you cuddles if you eat three," I offered. She looked back and forth between me and the cracker as if deciding if it was worth it. She took the cracker and ate it, taking small nibbles until it was gone. She took a small sip of ginger ale to wash it down. I waited to see if she held it down before handing her another. She ate it, taking small nibbles until it was gone. I waited again then handed her another.
"No more," She said, shaking her head. "Want my cuddles," She mumbled. I rolled my eyes but got up from the floor and sat next to her, pulling her arms from around her legs, lying down and pulling her closer to me. I laid there in silence, just holding her.
An hour passed and my arm had gone numb. I moved slowly to not jostle Kasie too much. I noticed her eyes were closed and light snores were coming from her slightly open mouth. I slowly moved from under her to carry her to our bed so she could have a better place to take a nap.
"Babe," I heard her mumble softly. "What 're you doing?" She mumbled sleepily.
"I was gonna move you to our bed; you fell asleep."
"Wanna stay 'ere," She mumbled.
"Okay," She sat up so I could get up. "Go back to sleep love," I kissed her cheek lightly before she laid back down. Her eyes closed and she was soon unconscious.
---
"Hello?...Really?!...Oh my god congratulations...of course I'll do the photos!!...Well, I do now," I laugh. "Of course!...no, don't thank me...well she's sleeping at home now but I'll spread the word," I see movement in the rear-view mirror and look up to see Skylar climbing in and buckling her seat belt. She sends me a warm smile and twists in her seat to get comfortable. "Alright, will do...alright bye," I hang up. "Sorry Sky, that was Alfie," I apologise.
"'s okay daddy," She smiles.
"So how was your day baby girl?" I ask, looking at the road, driving home and occasionally looking in the rear-view.
"It was okay," Sky replies, playing with a string on her jacket sleeve. I smile and a comfortable silence falls, the radio playing quietly in the background.
A/N: Sorry this took sooo long to get put up. I wrote this in pieces and it's still short. It sucks as well BUT I will definitely put up a chapter I'm happy with soon. I was just so busy with school and band and everything else that this was (unfortunately) put on the back burner for a while. BUT next chapter you'll find out what that phone call was about *smiles evilly* and the story will start picking up speed as well.
