Katherine's pov

"I can't... He wants me to stay in tonight" I say through the phone with a sigh.

I'm always lying nowadays. I have to. What else am I supposed to do?

"Really? You never go out!" I hear Claire saying in a sad tone. "We never see each other anymore..." She adds, bringing guilt to my stomach.

"I know..." I bite my lip before closing my eyes and sighing, "Fine. Okay. I'll meet you there" I give in.

"Oh my god, yes! You're the best, Kath!" She exclaims happily and I have to smile knowing that I make my best friend that happy.

The only reason I gave in was because he told me he was staying at work all night. Nightshift at the coffeeshop he still worked at. Three years later and he had still not gotten fired.

"See you soon" I said before hanging up and pulling on a black dress with a little cleavage, nothing too daring, and it went down to just above my knees.

I pulled on my favorite pair of nude pumps and a silver bracelet I'd gotten from my mom and dad back in America when I graduated.

I left my chestnut brown hair, which went down below my bust, naturally straight, before looking in the mirror.

My makeup was light, it had brown shades on my lids, a thin eyeliner, mascara and some nude lipstick attached to my lips.

I grabbed my black purse, which had my phone and money in it, and then I headed out to my taxi that waited outside for me.

The bar was full of people and as I looked around for Claire's blonde hair in the crowd I bumped into someone.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I say and look up at the person I'd walked right into.

"No, the fault is all mine" The British voice said. "I should've paid more attention" He continued as he looked down at me.

His brown hair and eyes were friendly and I had to smile.

"No, I should've..." I tell him and hold my hand out. "I'm Kath" I say as he grabs my hand to shake it.

"Nice to meet you, Kath." He smiles, "I'm Liam"

"Nice to meet you too, Liam" I say and pull my hand away. "I have to find my friend right now but, maybe I'll see you around?" I say and start looking around again.

"Yeah, I gotta find mine as well... See you, Kath" He smiles before leaving towards the back of the dancing crowd.

I suddenly feel an arm grip my wrist and I spin around so quickly as I lay my eyes on Claire.

"There you are!" She cheers before dragging me towards the bar.

We sit down and she orders two tequila shots for us.

"I haven't seen you in ages! How are you?" She asks and then takes one of the shots and points at the empty glass as it refills.

"I'm good" I lie. "I've just been studying a lot thats all" I tell her and force a smile as she nods.

"Yeah, totally get it." She takes the second shot and it refills as quickly again.

"Come on... One night, loosen up, Kath" She begs and holds out my shot towards me and holding her own in the other hand.

"Fine" I say and smile as I grab the shot and we cheer before swallowing the warm liquid that burns the whole way down to my stomach.

"That's it!" She cheers and the bartender refills yet again.

"So... How are things with Aidan?" She asks and lifts one eyebrow.

"They are good, really good" I say and know that it isn't the truth. I'm lying again.

Things with Aidan was good once. In the beginning he was the perfect guy, he was sweet, romantic, funny and not to mention really good looking. But I always knew it was too good to be true.

It wasn't until after a year he first laid a hand on me. A year until he hit me.

He was drunk, really drunk and he got mad and it all just happened so fast. I can barely remember it.

"I'm glad to hear it" She said smiling and I returned it.

When she went to the bathroom I was still sitting at the bar and looking at the bartender doing his job while I just thought about nothing at all.

I noticed someone sitting down next to me, where Claire was sitting, I turned my head and looked at the brown, curly mess of hair now sitting next to me.

"Scotch" The very dark voice said before retrieving the glass with brown liquid.

He took a sip before turning his head towards me, I realized I was staring and looked down at my hands in my lap with flushed cheeks.

"What's your name?" The dark voice suddenly asked and I looked up again.

I met his green eyes and took the opportunity to scan his face. His cheekbones where defined, just like his jawline, and his lips were pink, plump and heart shaped.

He was handsome, to say the least.

"Kath" I finally said and run a hand through my hair.

"Is that short for something?" He asked and I noticed his accent being really thick. I didn't know whether he was being rude or not...

"Yes... Katherine" I told him and bit my lip.

"Katherine." I saw a dimple appear as he smirked and it made me like his looks even more.

"I'm Harry" His deep voice pulled me out of my thoughts about his appearing and I let a smile form on my lips.

"Is that short for something?" I smirked repeating his sentence.

His chuckling made me laugh. It must have been contagious.

"No, it's not." He said with a wide smile. "Let me buy you something" He added and waved the bartender over.

"Dylan, get her another tequila on me" He said apparently knowing the bartender.

"Sure, Harry" He said smirking before pouring me another shot when I hadn't even finished the one I still had.

"You're not from here, America?" He asked, more assumed I guess. He sipped his scotch while looking at me.

"Yeah, I moved here three years ago." I told him. "I grew up in Seattle" I say and sip my tequila which felt weird.

"Why'd you move?" His curiosity was visible in his eyes as he actually seemed interested in knowing.

"I wanted an out, I guess. But it was mostly because I got a job here" I look down at the two shots in front of me before shooting one of them towards him.

"Don't leave me hanging" I laughed quietly and he smirked as he picked the glass up.

Our glasses clinked together before we took the shots and slamming it onto the bar table a second after.

"Harry Styles?!" I heard a familiar voice behind me and I watched Harry tense up a bit.
