-----------------------------------
Sunday came really slowly. The weather sucked, it was raining every day. One day when it was sunny enough, we cycled to the beach. We came back with a huge rainstorm. We were immediately soaked. When we got home, James literally cracked up laughing on the floor. We spent the next day inside watching TV, both with a serious headache.
But our friendship was greater than ever, Will's dad insisted that he go home with me. So now our bags were packed for the week and we were waiting while playing cards in the kitchen. I lost. All the time. I won only once. Then I cheated. Will was dumb enough to not realize it.
"Have you ever been out of town?" I asked Will.
"Not in US, but I've been to UK, Australia, France and Italy," he answered.
My face fell. Psh. It's not a big deal at all. It's a huge deal. "Okay.." I only said.
"What about you?"
"Only school trips. My mom doesn't trust me that much."
He smirked. "But she still let you come here."
"Well, it was my dad's idea, since our dads are such great friends."
"Well, your mother is a great firend to my dad too." He hid something behind his smirk.
I scowled. I never knew they were friends, I thought they're just polite.
Then he realized something because his eyes went big: "Oh, you don't know the whole story?"
"What story?" I hate secrets.
"Um, it's no my story to tell, ask your mom."
I huffed. I'll keep in mind to ask her. "Fine."
Then I saw a black car drive in. I recognized it - it was my dad's.
"Yes! He's here!" I shouted and stood up from the kitchen chair.
I hurried outside and saw my dad get out of the car. He looked the same as I remembered - dark hair which was a contrast to his pale skin. And our green eyes.
"Dad!" I shouted and ran to him. He laughed and pulled me in a tight hug.
"I really missed you, Joanne."
I smiled. "Me too, dad."
Then he let me go. "You've grown so much!" He stroked my cheek.
"I am?" I raised my eyebrow.
He just nodded, smiling. Then his eyes went to Will: "Talking about growing, I haven't seen that guy since he was seven!"
Will grinned. "Nice to see you, Mr. Mitchell." They shook hands.
"You too, boy."
I wonder how Will looked like when he was 7.
----------
After dad and Carl talked for an hour, we got to take our stuff and get inside the car to leave. James begged everybody to take him with us. I sat on the back seat with Will.
"So what brings you home, dad?" I asked.
"You, of course!" he said quickly.
"Dad.."
"Okay, work too. But let me finish!"
Even if we don't know each other that much, he still damn knows me. I really was gonna barge in. I sighed and let him continue.
"I'm thinking about moving the headquarters of my company here, because I really want to start fresh with you."
"That's all great, but don't you think it's too late? I'm almost a grown-up, dad. Why didn't you think about it when I actually needed you!?"
"I'm sorry, but I wasn't ready.." he stuttered.
"You're sorry? Just a simple sorry won't make up the seventeen years we needed you! And why would you think we want you back!?"
I just couldn't help it, I just had to let it out of my chest. I never showed or told anyone, but I missed him, a lot.
"Joey, shh.. calm down.." Will put hands on my shoulders. Which gave me an inside shock. What the...?
"No, I won't calm down, William!"
"Just leave it, Joey, it's better now or never, you know?" His hands moved up and down on my arms. He had a point. But I didn't want him to be right.. again.
I breathed in and out deeply. "Just put the headphones on, listen to some music and just rest, okay?"
"I forgot my headphones home.." I muttered.
He pulled out his phone and his headphones. "Take my phone."
I smiled evilly and took it. Will had to tell me many times to not go through his stuff, until I became that annoying that he gave up. And there was nothing interesting. I hadn't heard the music what was on his phone, so it made me listen carefully. And that led me to falling asleep.
----------
I woke up because of a bumb on the road which made my head bang on something. I opened my eyes. The headphones had fallen off. And my head was on.. Will's lap. Oh god.. that is way to clicheé. Well, it was me. Normally we would've had just snuggled, but me being me obviously took one of the weirdest sleeping positions.
I looked at Will, he was sleeping, slightly snoring. I checked the time. We have been riding for three hours already.
"You are quite a sleeper, Joanne," my dad said.
"I'll talk to you later, dad."
I just put my head on Will's lap again and closed my eyes. It's the best entertainment - sleeping.
---------
"Joey, get your ass up, we're here," I heard Will mutter while shaking me. I slapped him where I assumed his face was. And I assumed right, because I heard him saying: "Ouch, just get up, Joey."
I opened my eyes and looked out the window. I really saw my home. And I was immediately out of the car.
"Is mum home?" I asked my dad.
He just nodded. He and Will took the bags out of the car as I ran into the house.
"Mom?!?" I shouted as I entered.
"Joanne! Good to see you!" she appeared at the hallway. I ran to hug her.
At the same time dad and Will got into the house with the bags.
"Hey William, nice to see you again," my mum said to him.
"You too, Dianna," he answered. I think everyone knows that my mum hates when people name her Ms. or Mrs. She hasn't been married and everyone fails with the label because of that.
Mum gave him a kiss on the cheek. I wrinkled my nose because of it and dad laughed.
"Oh, Joanne, there's a surprise for you at the backyard. Take Will with you," mum mentioned.
I immediately grabbed Will and rushed there. I opened the backdoor, and everything was the same. Nothing wasn't changed there.
Then, Jackie and Elle appeared behind the chairs and tables yelling: "WAAAAAAR!"
With water balloons.
