It all started Freshman year. It was the first day of high school for both Mason and Carter. Carter was more than afraid of being in high school since middle school hadn't been a piece of cake. With meeting Hunter in eighth grade, not having any friends, and having her parents away on business trips all the time made life not exactly easy.

Now I bet your wondering who Hunter is. Well he had been a new student who had took a likeing to Carter. He saw how innocent and venerable she was. He decided to take advantage of who she was. He had been kind at first, slowly working his way into her life, before he let the crazy into her life. Claiming that he knew what was best for her.

One day she had told him that he was wrong, that she could do whatever she want, and that she was her own person. She angered Hunter past his limits as he had grabbed her roughly by the arm and threw her into a wall. That day was the day her parents found her laying unconscious on the floor with a small puddle of blood forming around her. They had rushed her off in a hurry to the hospital.

When Carter woke up in the hospital she was afraid that Hunter was still there. After a week at home she finally returned to school and found that Hunter had disappeared around the time she went to the hospital. Nobody could find him. Everyone assumed he ran away from his drunk of a father, but she knew better. He vanished because he hurt her or that's what she thought.

Fear was seeping into Carters veins.

Crawling its way up her body.

Invading all her senses.

She knew it was only a matter of time before he would come back. He had whispered into her ear that day he threw her into the wall that he would be back.

When she entered 9th grade she was filled with panic. So many unfamiliar faces, people she didn't know, and didn't trust. That day she had searched the crowed for the possible chance Hunter would be lurking around. When she came up empty, she had been relieved but she was still weary about all the people around her. Carter looked around her a lot as the first day went on. Her eyes stopped on one pare that were staring back at her.

She looked at the person connected to the mystic Blue eyes and saw that it was a boy. A boy with short hair, dark clothing(black jeans, navy blue shirt, and a black jacket), and a cigarette in his mouth. She cringed inside at the cigarette, saying it took seven minutes of you life. She smiled at the boy and turned away after a little of him just staring. Turns out the boy she had seen was Mason Knight. A guy who was mute to everyone but one and was the badass. He was the guy she found quite attractive out of anyone at this school, but she never tried to talk to him or get involved. She believed he wouldn't go for a girl like her but little did she know he was thinking the same thing.

Mason didn't give a shit about going to high school. At the time he thought he was just going to skip all the classes, vandalize the school with his buddy, and sneak smokes but that all changed when he saw her golden brown eyes shining with curiosity.

He was drawn into her in that little moment. The way she smiled at him made him freeze as a fuzzy feeling filled his insides. He was startled with this feeling that he never had felt before. When she turned away he felt disappointed. Disappointed to loose connection with those eyes and stunning smile.

At first he thought he was just going insane but when he saw her in every class he couldn't help but stare at her. To watch as she looked around the room in fright, not trust anyone, and never letting her guard down. He soon figured that something had happened, something that scared her. He hated seeing her frightened but he didn't have the guts to go up to her. He never did even for being the bad boy in school he just didn't have the courage to talk to such an innocent girl.

Unlike Hunter he wanted to save her, keep her as innocent as possible. He didn't want to take advantage of her in anyway. He wanted her to be happy and enjoy every minute of her life.

He would murmur to himself everyday saying he would talk to her but three years later he still hadn't uttered a word to her. He knew her name, which person she trusted the most at school, and her birthday. Every time her birthday came around he Mason would always get her a necklace and a card. He would slide it between the slits in her locker and wait down the hall for her to open the small door and see the gift he had left for her.

The way her face scrinched up in confusion made her look adorable to him. He would watch as she looked around for who could have possibly left the gift. He watched as she looked back down at the card which was signed with yours truly Mas. He didn't want her to know it was him, well not yet anyways. The day after he would see the gift wrapped around her neck and in a way it made him feel connected to her.

Carter thought it was sweet that someone actually cared enough to give her something on her birthday. Yes her parents gave her a gift but to have someone other than them made her feel happy, but sad at the same time as she didn't know who to thank for actually taking the time to get her anything.

Sadly senior year there was a high probability that she wouldnt be there to receive the special gift. She wouldnt even be there for her birthday.
