"No, Mia, you come back here right now!" My mother called as I ran out into the rain.
"Eh!" I huffed and threw off my jacket, so I seemed tough. "No! You're making my summer suck, and you've made my life in general suck!" I said, tears in my eyes as I ran down the tan, Oregon concrete. It was dark outside, but I carried a flashlight in my backpack of things I carried with me. I would use my phone, but I don't have one. I'm 12! I know people that got phones when they were 9! I flicked on my flashlight and continued running through the cold precipitation. My family had always made fun of me because I'm smart, (okay, nerdy), I believe in the supernatural, and I'm interested in the paranormal. They teased me everyday. I can't go a single day at that house without being called 'Ghost Girl' by every single member of my family at least five times. I wouldn't have to worry about them now. I swatted at my long brunette hair, and kept running as the rainwater squished below my high tops and left little water drops on my khaki jeggings. I started to shiver, as the rainfall spread a cool climate across the land, but I knew as I reached the exit of my neighborhood, it was too late to grab my jacket. I checked my watch; 9:32 pm. I looked fearfully at the sky, for dusk had ended, and true nightfall had come. Because I have such luck, my flashlight blinked a few times, then shut off. I stopped dead in my tracks, so I could try to get it to work. I shook it a few times, but nothing was working. I shrugged my shoulders and cautiously sprinted. I was really getting cold now. It was summer, so there was a base warmth in the weather, but the wind and rain had turned it cold. I rubbed my arms on my dark green tee shirt for warmth, but it wasn't working. About an hour later, I had reached my freezing point. I stopped in front of a clearing in the woods. I checked my watch again; 10:11 pm. I walked down the concrete path. The house said 'Mystery Shack'. It read 'Mystery Hack' but I could see the fallen 's' on the yard. I walked up to the door and lightly knocked. A young boy with a hat on opened the door. Before I could say anything, another wave of cold-ness hit me, and I got so cold I passed out. Before I had fully fainted, the kid had yelled,
"Hey, Grunkle Stan!" After that, I was out.
