Caroline was up in her room, packing her things. She was finally moving to Ireland. Just for four years, than she could come home. She didn't regret her choice, or will. What bothered her the most was that she'd be breaking not only her's, but Luke's heart too. But maybe they were never meant to be after all. They never even dated, so maybe it was just feelings that will go away within a few months or so.
Bo, Caroline's older brother, walked into the her room to help Caroline pack. He was confused when he saw his little sister staring at photo, tears running down her face. Bo slowly approached Caroline, glancing down at the photo his sister held. A picture of her and Luke, playing volleyball on the beach during their spring break.
"It's rough, huh?" Bo whispered.
Caroline slightly smiled. "That day was one of the most happiest days of my life. I knew on that day that Luke was really the love of my life. That I couldn't live without him. I had actually managed to forget that we had so little time left together. I forgot about going to Ireland. It was just about me and him. I love that boy so much. I know we never kissed. I know we never dated, but that doesn't make me not love him."
"Are you sure leaving is the best thing for you?" Bo questioned.
"I need to do this. I have to go to school and learn what I need to learn. You know this is the best school that offers this course. It gives us a good education. You know I need this to become a maternity nurse."
Bo sighed. "But wouldn't you want to be in the patient's shoes?"
"What do you mean?" Caroline pressed.
"What I mean is that, wouldn't you rather be having the baby? Wouldn't you want Luke by your bedside, holding your hand, waiting on the arrival of a child you had both made together out of pure love? Wouldn't you want to take home Luke's son or daughter? Wouldn't it be such bliss to know you were the mother of his child?"
Caroline looked at Luke's picture before glancing back at her brother. "If your trying to make me change my mind, please stop. Luke and I knew the circumstances. We knew what was going to happen if we fell in love. We know of the heartbreak that awaits us. This was God's plan. If he wants me to be with Luke, he'll make sure that I be with Luke. He'll find a way. But for now, I have to go to school, Luke has to go to school and we both have to move on."
"If that's what you want," Bo gave up.
"It is," Caroline said simply.
Luke sat in his truck, he was waiting at the end of Caroline's driveway. He knew he couldn't do anything to change her mind, but that didn't make him want to any less. He loves that girl way more than he should care. He wanted to be with her, to love her, to hold her, to kiss her. He wanted her to be the mother of his children. He wanted her to be the one in the white dress as she walked down the aisle to him. He wanted his ring on her finger. He wanted her to take his name. To sum it all up, he just wanted her.
He took in a deep breath, grabbed his keys, and hopped out of the truck. He hated goodbyes. But he would regret it if he didn't say goodbye to Caroline. If he could change anything, he'd never wait for her. He should've dated her before it was too late. He loved her, he always will.
Caroline's family were packing boxes and boxes into her father's truck. Luke saw him wave to him, he smiled as he waved back. "Morning, Mr. Boyer."
"Came her to say goodbye?" he asked Luke.
Luke nodded. "I love her," he admitted. "But I can't change this. This is her choice, not mine."
"You're a good kid, Luke. I hope y'all find each other again someday."
