Lacey and I did make good on the promise to Mandy. Our honeymoon had been successful, in other words.

           ***********************

Barely two months after we had gotten married and my bed shook furiously. Whining out, I buried my face further into the mound of pillows that I was laying across, "Lace, I told you, it's our day off and therefore we should just sleep all day and not get up."

"You have to get up!" She demanded, gripping my shoulders and doing her best to roll me over so that I was facing her instead of laying face down in the pillow pile.

"Why do I have to get up?" I quizzed, voice muffled by the fabric that was trying to make its way inside of my mouth as I spoke.

"You have to go out and buy a crib for your child," Lacey informed me, as if I should have already known that. Even with the slight annoyance that laced her tone, excitement caused her to continue to try and flip me over and her words came out a little faster than normal.

Slowly, I rolled over, making sure that she moved with me so that she was still on top of me. "Isn't it, I don't know, a little premature to go out and buy a crib for a baby that isn't even created yet?"

Rolling her eyes, Lacey looked exasperated by my pure idiocy, "Jacob, are you really that stupid?!"

I raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?" I asked, sitting up and leaning back against the pillows so I could  look at her better.

"Jake, I came in here to tell you that you have to buy a crib for your baby. What does that tell you?"

"That...you want to have kids?" I tried, but even I knew that wasn't what she had wanted. I just wasn't sure what it had meant.

"Yes, I do want to have kids. You do, too. And guess what?" She didn't give me any time to answer, "We're having one, you idiot!"

Instantly, I sat straight up and my eyes opened wide, "Wait. Seriously?! You're pregnant?!"

Obviously happy that I had finally understood what she had meant, she grinned and nodded vigorously, "Yes! I am pregnant, Jake!"

Eyes wide and hands fluttering towards and around her stomach, but never touching because my brain was still processing the words she had said, "Seriously?? How do you know?"

"Seriously!" She laughed and grabbed her phone from the table beside the bed. After pressing through a few pictures, apps, and whatever else, she held it up to my face. Pulling it away from my face enough to actually focus on what was in front of me, I could see that it was a picture of the five pregnancies tests she must have taken.

"Five?" I mumbled as I looked at the various pregnancy sticks that were piled up in the sink.

Groaning at how slow I was being, Lacey shook her head, "Jake! That is not the point of them!"

Laughing quietly, I dropped the electronic device on to my lap and placed my cheeks on Lacey's cheeks, leaning forward and kissing her sweetly.

She kissed me back for a moment before she pulled away and grinned at me, tears shining in her eyes, "Honey, we're having a baby.... We are going to be parents."

I grinned back at her and nodded softly, tears of my own barely held back as I blinked repeatedly, "Parents..."

Not long after we found out that Lacey was pregnant, we returned to the spot we had been on the night we first decided to date. The crest of the hill, the one that overlooked Claremont, the friendly suburban town beside our small city.
