The next morning, I headed down to the kitchen to have breakfast with the others. We ate our cereal and chatted about the new prisoner.
"What do you think, Ray? Do we trust her?" I asked through a mouthful of Mini Wheats. She swallowed her spoonful of Fruit Loops and thought for a minute.
"I'm not sure yet, I need more info." We both looked at Vin for his opinion.
"Don't look at me! Air is the boss here." He stated jokingly as always. Just then my dad came in with toast and eggs. I quickly filled him in on the conversation.
"After we're done here, we can head downstairs if you want." That was that, we ate much faster now and soon made our way to the brightly lit basement. After Katrina woke and ate, we took turns asking for valuable information. It took way too long to get her to tell us anything, I was growing impatient with her continuously avoiding questions and dodging bullets. After twenty minutes, I let myself into the cell and grabbed her lapel and pulled her up to look me in the eyes.
"If you want to convince me that you are on our side, tell us what you know. NOW!" I growled angrily. She stuttered and, out of nowhere, she spat directly into my face.
I dropped her and fell backwards, leaving the space between me and the door open. She saw the opportunity and bolted out of the room. I hollered with rage and frustration as Vin helped my off my butt. I said a quick thanks and launched forward, flying after the escaping demon. With the group at my heels, we made our way after her and split up to cover more ground. Guys! I found her, I've got her cornered in the storage closet off the gym. Marissa, head to the training room and take a right all the way until you see us.Thankful for Ray's helpful instructions, I ran as fast as I could. On the way I passed Clent.
"We need to keep the demon in the complex, lock the place down!" I yelled over my shoulder as I rounded the corner. As I followed the directions, I heard a loud noise in the hall."Ray! You ok?!" I heard two voices from behind me. I looked around frantically for my dear friend. It was scary how silent it was after the crash. I slowed down as I reached the small room. I was shocked to see Katrina holding Ray against the wall by her throat. I dove in and grabbed for Rip, but I realized that I wasn't armed. I mentally slapped myself for the rookie mistake and snapped back to the situation at hand. Ray was breathing heavily and she was turning red from lack of oxygen. I lunged at Katrina and was knocked back with incredible force. My dad stared in shock and demanded Ray be released.
"I'll let her go if you give me the prophecy child." She said with a murderous look in her eye. Vin stepped protectively in front of me, a large knife in hand.
"I'll ask you one more time, Shadow Demon. Let her go."
Marissa, remember your special training day? The one when we worked on that new move that Vin called the 'butt kicker' on my signal, do it!
I thought back a few weeks ago when Vin tough me what he appropriately named the butt kicker. I glanced over at Vin and Ray, very afraid. The butt kicker is when I focus all my energy into a single fireball the size of a beach ball and explode it. No matter how hard I tried, I never successfully did it. It was also very dangerous for anyone in the room.
Just do it. I promise it will work this time, you're getting much stronger now. 3.. 2.. 1..
Reluctantly, I bent my knees slightly, brought my hands together at chest height, and focused all my power into the flame building in my palms. I kept repeating one phrase in my mind.
I need to get this right, I can't let her die. I'll save her. I can do this.
The flame was just about the size of a watermelon now.
Here we go...
