Since I'm a writer myself, I know sometimes how hard it can be to make decisions regarding your book.
I'm not saying in any way that I know 100% what I'm talking about, or that I'm a completely successful writer, because I know that's not true.
However, I do know that writing can be a challenge mentally, and can be very confronting.
So, I thought what better to write about than tips that might be of use to other authors out there?
1. Covers
Whether we actually realise it or not, covers play a big role when it comes to books.
Do you walk into a book store, and see a book with no cover or title on it, and think:Damn, that looks like a really good book. I might read that.
Do you? I wouldn't have a clue, but I know that most people probably wouldn't.
Covers are critical because it epitomises our different books in a picture, and some words.
If you don't know how to get a cover, you can get someone within the Wattpad community to help. There are so many people that are willing to ale your covers, and they always look really good.2. Have an Interesting Title
This is also fairly critical when it comes to writing books, because a title like:Bob Visits the Beach
Is, I'll admit, a little bit boring compared to a title such as:
Bob Visits the Sparkling Beach
(Not exactly the greatest of examples)
But, you can see how it makes a difference.3. Book Clubs!
Book clubs are a great way to discover new books, make new friends, and have your book discovered by others.
By joining one, other members read your books as well as you theirs, and it is a great system in which you can receive constructive criticism and tips on how to improve your works.
I strongly recommend this for anyone that feels that they need help or advice. But, joining a club also gives you the chance to discover new talent, and give back constructive criticism of your own.
4. Genres
Lately I've been seeing a lot of 'bad boy' themed books, or 'werewolf' and 'vampire' books. It is always important to write the genre that you are comfortable with, instead of what seems popular within the website. Write about what you enjoy most, and maybe even something you can relate to.5. Ask For Advice!
I think this is most commonly missed when starting an account on a website such as Wattpad. People try everything, but they never think to ask for advice! Lots of experienced writers out there would I'm sure be flattered and happy to hear that you want their advice! Maybe you could ask a friend, or a fellow wattpader, or even myself! (Not saying I'm and experienced writer or anything).
There's always something that you can learn from other people, and it's great!6. Grammar and Spelling
I've read, and seen a lot of books with bad grammar. I'm not at all saying that this is bad, nor am I saying that people should stop if they are comfortable with it, but people generally don't read books that maybe cannot always be understood.
For example:he blink nervously skaks with fears as he takes stepping up on stage
Or
he run a hands through his hair and wink at me i blush profusely and pink is tint my cheek
I'm not saying that writing like this is bad; if you are comfortable writing this way, I urge you to continue. But, people tend to read more books if they have better grammar and spelling.
For example:
He blinks nervously, shaking with fear as he takes a step onto the stage.
Or
He runs a hand through his hair, and winks at me. I blush profusely, pink tinting my cheeks.
Grammar can be critical, but I found out not long ago that there are grammar websites, that can correct and pick up even the smallest of mistakes.
I thought I'd update today, because I'm going to be fairly busy over the next few days, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to update.
