Chapter 9
Shawn stood there shocked for a minute as him and Maya stared at each other.
"Alright, bay window." Shawn told Maya.
"Only I can say that!" Riley argued, waiting for Maya to add 'And me' like usual. Maya just got up and walked to the bay window, followed by Shawn. Cory handed Shawn the phone and explained why to him, quietly so no one would know.
Riley was shocked. Maya didn't add her part. This had changed her best friend. She didn't like it. She wanted her best friend back to normal, not like this.
-
Maya sat down in her normal place, playing with her fingers and avoiding eye contact. She did not want to talk to Shawn. She didn't know if she could trust him. He seemed like a trusting man, but now she doesn't know. What if he was lying like Randy?
All these thoughts ran through her head.
"What happened?" Shawn broke the silence.
"Nothing you need to know." Maya mumbled under her breath, yet Shawn still heard.
"Well you seem different, more tense. I don't like that. Tell me Maya." Shawn begged.
"Why do you even care? You and Katy broke up, why should you care about me?" Maya asked.
"I care because I love you both." he told her, "Why are you calling her Katy?"
"Because she wasn't there for me at all. How can she be my mom if she isn't there for me and left me with an abusive man?" Maya snapped, wanting Shawn to mind his own business.
"You were, abused?" Shawn choked out.
"Yes ok! Just let the whole world know now because everyone is figuring this out! I told three people because they forced me to and somehow everyone is figuring this out!" Maya yelled in frustration. She was questioning everything.
Why is this so frustrating?
How does this get spread?
Why is this all happening?
"Maya," Shawn started, still in the state of shock.
Why would this happen to Maya? Maya did nothing, yet she still gets hurt. This made Shawn mad.
"Why is the world against me!? What did I do to you universe!?" Maya yelled.
"Maya calm down," Shawn started, trying to get the fourteen year old to relax.
"No, don't tell me to calm down." Maya snapped, hitting Shawn's hand away from her shoulder. She wanted Shawn gone. She wanted everyone gone.
She wanted the Matthews' to stop bothering her with questions and to mind their own business. She wanted Shawn to stop trying to make this better when he's just going to leave again. She wanted Farkle to stop calming her down.
She wanted one person.
Lucas.
He wasn't bothering her, trying to get the whole story, She wanted him to keep his promise.
She just wanted Lucas to hold her in his arms and tell her everything will be ok.
"Maya, please. At least answer this." Shawn begged.
"Fine, you're going to leave anyways." Maya rolled her eyes at him.
"Not true. I'm staying here until you're better." he told her and she rolled her eyes yet again.
"Whatever."
"Why didn't you tell anyone about these text?" Shawn showed her the text on her phone. Maya finally lost it.
"Why does everyone keep getting into my business!? I can deal with that on my own! It's not that big of a deal! He's texted me like that before! Just stay out of this Shawn! I just want everyone to leave this alone and I want things to go back to the way they were!" she yelled and crawled out of the window, Shawn following.
She sat down by the window escape, eyes glued to the city. Her back was against the rough, cold wall.
"Maya, please talk to me. I want to help." Shawn begged.
"Just, go away. I just want to be alone." Maya told him, not taking her eyes off of the city. Shawn finally gave up and left her alone in her own little world.
-
Lucas knew Maya was hurt. The way she was yelling at Shawn, she never yells at him like that.
She would never do that to Shawn.
"Why is Maya mad at Uncle Shawn?" Riley asked, snapping everyone's attention from the screaming to her.
"She's not mad, just frustrated and confused. But Shawn can deal with her." Cory reassured and everyone nodded.
Lucas knew, Shawn could not handle Maya. Maya can't even handle herself right now.
"I can't deal with her!" Shawn admitted, walking in.
"What happened?" Topanga asked angrily. Shawn was suppose to help, but that changed.
"She refused to talk to me, She's hurt and doesn't want to talk to me, refusing to." Shawn explained. "This has really impacted her, a lot." Shawn said and Lucas left. He crawled through Riley's window and saw Maya.
"Hey." he greeted and sat down by her.
"What do you want Huckleberry?" Maya spat.
"Ouch." Lucas said and Maya rolled her eyes.
"Whatever."
"Maya, talk to me. What is going on? What can I do to help?" Lucas asked. All he wanted to do was help her. Make her feel better.
Maya leaned her head onto Lucas shoulder.
"Just, be here for me." Maya whispered.
"I'm right here."
"We might be here for awhile."
"That's ok with me."
