Lasercorn was hunched over his desk, a pencil in one hand, and the other blocking the drawing he was working on. He let out a groan of frustration, and ripped the page out of the sketchbook, tossing it over his shoulder.
Mari raised an eyebrow as she watched. That was the fourth time in the last hour. She snuck over, picking up the discarded drawing.
She uncrumpled it, gasping softly. The drawing was a rough sketch of a wintery scene. She looked out the window directly across from Lasercorn's desk, and saw the almost exact resemblance.
"Holy shit..."
Lasercorn looked up, jumping slightly. "Mari? What are you doing over here?"
"I think the real question is how are you so good at art?"
Lasercorn's eyes widened and he grabbed the paper from her hands. "Hey!"
Mari raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"It's not a finished drawing. 'Sides, that one sucks."
"If that one sucks, what does a good drawing of yours look like?"
He sighed and looked around before opening a drawer on his desk and rustling around in it for a minute.
Lasercorn pulled a sheet of paper out, handing it to Mari. "It's pretty old. It's the original Lasercorn sketch I did years ago. Not my best work, but I'm happy with it."
"Holy shit. How the fuck did you get this good?"
Lasercorn shrugged. "Years of practice. I uh, I'm working on some holiday gifts for you guys. I'm doing portraits. I'm using oil pastels and pencil. So uh, this is Matt..."
He handed her a realistic drawing of Sohinki. "I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Especially considering I don't work with oil pastels much..."
"Holy shit dude... You work on Smosh Games, when you should be a famous artist..."
Lasercorn blushed. "You- you think?"
Mari shook her head. "So there is truth to the saying artists critique themselves hardest. Laser, these are amazing. I'm not kidding."
He ducked his head slightly. "I have a few drawings of you. You and Joven are actually the most fun to draw."
He pulled a drawing from a folder and showed her. It was more of an anime style, and in the drawing, she had a mask and nunchucks, similar to when she'd done the Lunchtime with Smosh. "I never knew you had an artsy side...."
"Not something I tell many people. My wife knows, I mean, I did paint Tyler's nursery."
Mari punched his arm lightly. "Take pride in your work! Although I have to ask, why don't you ever seem to do well in those drawing games?"
Lasercorn shrugged. "I don't do well with digital drawing, and besides, we have like 30 seconds. On a phone screen."
"Heh, true. I never expected this..."
"Well... Thanks. I think."
Mari rolled her eyes. "You're pretty damn amazing. I'll drop it now, but just- don't hide this part of yourself, okay?"
He nodded, smiling at her. "Alright. And, uh, thank you."
She nodded as she headed back to her desk. Lasercorn picked up the still crumpled, half-finished drawing, and smiled.
