David boredly stared out the window of the plane he was on. Yeah, sure, he'd had worse flights, but this was just agonizing.
He was flying across the country to spend the holidays with his boyfriend, Joshua. They'd met at last year's Comic Con, and hit it off immediately. Over the next few months, they'd texted, Skyped, and called every chance they had, until finally, he'd asked Joshua to be his boyfriend.
Joshua had, very enthusiastically, said yes. They were extremely close and loving, and David was super impatient.
He was sitting next to a young woman and her daughter. The mother seemed to notice his restlessness. "Excuse me, are you okay?"
"Hmm? Oh, yeah, just a little anxious."
She smiled gently at him. "Do you wanna talk? I mean, we've got 3 hours left on this flight..."
David shrugged. "Sure, I guess. I'm going to California to meet up with my boyfriend. We haven't seen each other in person since we met last year."
"Really? So you have a long distance relationship?"
"Yeah. It's kinda hard sometimes, but I feel like it's worth it."
"I understand. My husband and I have a daughter, but we're in a somewhat similar situation. He lives in California, working, but I still live in Japan... I'm going through the process to get citizenship. I've got my green card, and I'm moving, but it's a long process... Rae lives with me for now, but we're going to visit my husband."
David looked at her, impressed. "You live in Japan? That's pretty awesome!"
She chuckled. "Yeah. But I learned English early on, and I came here to attend Juilliard. There was a comic book store not far from it, and Matt, my husband, lived in New York and worked there. Ever since, we've been together."
He smiled at her. "That's seriously awesome. I uh, I don't think I caught your name."
She laughed. "Oh! Sorry, I got ahead of myself. Mari. Mari Sohinki."
He shook her hand with a smile. "Your last name sounds familiar... You said your husband's name is Matt?"
"Yeah."
"My boyfriend works with him. I think he mentioned Matt's 'wife who lives in another country with their daughter' Small world."
Mari laughed. "Yeah, pretty much. I think Matt mentioned the awkward, tattooed, nerd. I take it that's your boyfriend?"
"That'd be him."
The rest of the flight, Mari and David talked, becoming pretty good friends. He even talked to Rae- who Mari said was a little shy- for a few minutes.
A few hours later, the plane landed. "Thank god," David muttered. He stood up, grabbing his phone and bag, running a hand through his probably messy hair. Mari got off in from of him, and they headed to the door.
David made a face as they got off the plane. "It's already hotter than Ohio!"
Mari laughed, leading Rae off the plane. "What do you expect, polar bear?"
David stuck out his tongue. "What ever. I'm going to find Joshua. Bye!"
Mari waved. "See ya!"
David looked around the gate, grinning when he saw a familiar face. "Joshua!"
Joshua's eyes lit up as he saw David. David ran over to him, hugging him tightly. "Oh my god, David... It's been forever and a day."
"It has.... I love you..."
"I love you too."
They stayed like that for a few minutes, caught in each other's embrace. David sighed, gently pulling away. "There's something I've wanted to do for a long time..."
Before he could ask, David crashed his lips to Joshua's, startling the taller man. When he regained his senses, Joshua wrapped his arms around David's waist, wondering how he got so lucky.
