(No, I'm not doing Touka's POV because I ignored her, I just want to give all four main characters a POV)
**Touka's POV**
"What do you think Mello's doing right now?" Near asked, sitting on the floor and staring at the ground.
"Probably trying to break in or something," I guessed. "He seems like the kind of guy that would do that." I looked out the small window which showed the sidewalk, since we were on the first floor. Lots of people walked by. Not one of them noticed me.
Then, I spotted Mello in the crowd, walking by casually.
"Mello!" I yelled as loud as I could. "Mello! Look over here!" he looked over and ran towards me.
"You see Mello?" asked Near. I nodded. He stood right out the window.
"We need to get out before they know!" I said, just loud enough that he could hear through the glass. Kaneki had already been taken to the detective "L" to decide if he was lying.
"Don't worry, I'll get you out!" he shouted. But the glass and the city noises behind him made it hard to hear, so it sounded like he said "Don't hurry, I'll get you a trout!" It took me a moment to realize what he actually said.
He ran off, knowing it wouldn't be long until L figured out we were lying.
"Wait, Kaneki had a bag that held our masks," I remembered. "If L finds it and sees them...we're already well-known ghouls to the investigators..."
"Actually, I told Kaneki to leave his bag outside, in case this were to happen." Near replied casually, twirling a piece of his hair around with his finger.
"But all our money was in there! And what if a person takes our masks! My friend took forever to make those!"
"Would you rather have physical evidence that the police easily can use against you?" he asked. I sat down on a wood bench sadly. "I'll kill you for that, you know."
He smiled. "Yeah, sure you will."
A few minutes later, Kaneki returned. He was escorted by a boy around our age, with messy black hair, a a baggy white shirt, jeans, and intense bags under his eyes.
"Hello, Ryuzaki," Near greeted, somehow knowing the boy already.
"Hello Near-kohai. Um, Touka-san, can you follow me please?" I nodded silently, got up, and followed him as police locked Kaneki with Near.
We sat in a small, dull room that looked like an interrogation room that would be shown in a movie. The boy, Ryuzaki, sat in a strange, crouching position in one of the chairs. It looks hard to balance, the way he was sitting. I sat down normally.
"So. Are you a ghoul?" he asked.
"Yes."
"What?"
"What?"
I thought the best thing to do was confuse him.
"Um..." he bit his fingernails and stared right at me. "Why are you admitting this?"
"I'm not a ghoul," I smiled, folding my arms.
"...Prove it."
"How?"
"Did you bring anything into the building with Near-kohai and Kaneki-kun?"
"No."
"Really? We have security cameras, you know." he stood up with terrible posture and picked up an iPad. He walked back and showed the camera footage. It revealed us walking in with Light, Misa, and Kaneki's black bag.
"What was in that bag? And where is it?" he asked, sitting back down in the strange position.
"Our money was in there. And when there was a ghoul announcement and we all went inside, Near accidentally forgot it there."
"Okay. Then I'll send Watari to get it." Without explanation of who Watari was, he picked up a phone, using just two fingers, and asked for a person to get the bag.
About a minute later, an old man walked in, holding the bag carefully. He handed it to Ryuzaki, which he opened quickly. The man left without a word.
"Hmm...wait, what's this?" he pulled out my white rabbit mask.
"It's from a party I went to...they passed out animal masks."
"Interesting. It looks just like the mask of the ghoul 'Rabbit'." If he found Kaneki's mask, it would be hard to come up with a lie for it, since it didn't resemble any animal.
"And...this?" he pulled out Kaneki's mask, examining it closely.
"Well..."
"Do you want to know why I think you're ghouls?" he asked. "Both of these masks have been seen on ghouls. We call this one Eyepatch, and this one is Rabbit." he held up my mask. "Eyepatch has been seen many times with Rabbit."
"That's no actual evidence...we just make ghoul masks for fun, to scare people."
He looked at me as if I was stupid. "I said we had security cameras. That means all around the building." He showed a short clip of me and Kaneki, wearing our masks, while Near rode on top of Mello in the hallway.
"I...um..."
"Touka-san, or should I say Rabbit, the ghoul investigators will return soon. I will talk to Near-kohai now." I followed him out of the room, where he took me back into prison cell. I sat next to Kaneki once he took Near away.
"Hey, what happened?" he asked, noticing I looked like I was about to cry.
"We need to kill him...he knows...and we need to kill him!" I cried.
"He outsmarted you, too? Wow, he's good." he tried acting casual, but I could tell that he knew that once a person knows our face, we might never be safe again.
"We'll kill him for sure, okay?" I told him. "Before he tells anyone about us." Kaneki nodded.
Five minutes later, Ryuzaki returned with Near. Near made sure not to make eye contact with anyone as he sat down on the floor of the cell.
"Well," Ryuzaki announced in front of the cell. "From what I have found out, I can conclude that you are all ghouls. However, I have no actual evidence for Near-kohai... but for Touka-san and Kaneki-kun, the ghoul investigators will arrive shortly." he left without another word.
"We'll break out! We can do that- he already knows our faces so it won't make a difference!" I exclaimed. "We can kill him!" Near stared at the ground.
"By the way, Near, how do you know him?" asked Kaneki.
"He lived at the orphanage I lived at- 'Wammy's House'. I didn't know him that well but we worked on mysteries sometimes...we call him L the detective." he twirled a piece of hair with his finger.
Suddenly, Near got up and started banging on the door with no explanation.
"Um, Near? Are you okay?" I asked. He didn't respond, he only kept banging on the door. He began to kick it.
"Near what are you- ah!" Kaneki yelled as Near made his blue kagune appear. It almost filled the whole room.
"Near stop it! What are you even doing?! You're gonna get caught!" As he broke down the door, police ran over, bur Near threw the officers to the walls. He walked through the room without hesitation, his eyes black and red.
"Near!" we shouted together as we chased him into the elevator. He stared down at the ground once he pressed the "5" button. That was where L had taken us each. His kagune vanished to make room for us, but he showed no emotion.
"Near, what are you thinking! You can't just barge in!" I exclaimed, shaking his arm. He wouldn't look up.
When the elevator opened, he walked right into the Kira investigation room. The group of investigators stared in shock, unsure what to do. Near didn't look up. He walked straight to where Light and Misa were and broke the handcuffs.
"NEAR!" I screamed. "Are you stupid or something?!" The ghoul didn't respond.
"N-Near's a ghoul?!" cried the young investigator, Matsuda.
"The investigators are already on their way, protect yourselves and watch Light and Misa!" ordered Mr. Yagami. Two police officers grabbed Light and Misa.
But instead of attacking, Near walked out of the room and towards the room L talked to us. He slammed the door open. I ran inside with Kaneki to see L looking up from a slice of strawberry cake. He looked at Near's ghoul eyes.
"Ah, I thought you were a ghoul." he said simply, still eating the cake. "You want to kill me?" Near kept staring at the ground. His kagune appeared from his back. I wanted to hold him back, saying it was wrong, but L was a huge threat to us. He was about to strike when, at perfect timing, a ghoul investigator got in the way and blocked the attack. Near's blank expression didn't change, but he still fought with his kagune. He slammed the investigator into the wall, most likely killing him.
"Near!" a voice in the background yelled. Mello. Near slightly turned his head toward the voice, but quickly turned back. I could almost see some emotion on his face- sadness?
"M-Mello..." Near muttered, a tear running down his face.
"Near, what's going on?!" I asked quickly, shaking his arm and trying to get him to move. The rest of the "doves" were running towards us.
"T-tell Me-Mello...to run..." he stuttered, tears streaming down his face but still keeping a blank expression and staring down. Kaneki tried holding the doves back.
"Near!" Mello finally reached us, out of breath. He must have been running the whole way there. "What are you doing?!"
"R-run," he whispered. "I c-can't stop...I don't w-want to be a m-murderer..." He sounded just like when Kaneki was first becoming a ghoul, but something about this was completely different.
Near started to run. He pushed past the investigators like they weren't even there. We chased after him, but he was running faster than it seemed he could.
"Wait, Near!" I yelled. "Where are you going?!" he didn't look back. He just kept running.
Finally, he ran towards a glass window. Without hesitation, he shattered the glass and jumped out.
"NEAR!" Mello screamed. "WE'RE ON THE FIFTH FLOOR, ARE YOU INSANE?" but the boy used his kagune to land safely and ran off into the crowd, impossible to spot once his kagune was gone.

(Hmm I wonder why I did this, I really like Near)
