Erin drives through Tree Hill, NC

Hour One: Midnight

Haley sets her purse on the seat between her and Mia; taking out her journal, she opens the pen that's laid inside the binding and begins to write: with no intention of the outcome.

"Dear Drew,

You know I always say there is something unique about putting pen to paper. But in this moment I don't know what to write. I have nothing to write about because in this moment I am sick to my stomach. I have no idea if you are still alive or in pain. I have no idea why you would take the train to Chicago to see a baseball game with Matt, you have no interest in sports. You're a music major, you have this gift that no one has ever heard yet. This cannot be the end to your story. You have always had extraordinary potential. I've always known you were a visual learner, it was in the eyes. Everything you can learn about someone you can see clearly in their eyes. I fear I have never told you that before, and I'm afraid I will never get the chance. To say many more things to you, but the most important thing you need to know is that I love you, my son. Please stay safe, please be okay when we get there that's all I ask. I forgive you for your reckless actions, all I want to know is that you are breathing and that your heart is beating.

Love, Mom."

"Brooke, I know this is not the time but we should really get back to Tric.' Luke said putting his coffee mug in the sink, listening to her crying behind the counter.  I'll lock up, when you are ready."

Brooke's mind started to race, with no chance to gather her thoughts, her words subconsciously spill from the depths of her knowledge.

"I cannot believe this is happening. Our nephews were in an accident. We all know they could not be so reckless, to not send word that they even left the state. Haley and Mia are probably in fear right now, worse fear than me." Brooke said through sobs.

"Brooke, all we can do right now is pray that they are okay, and that they learned their lesson on their own. Worrying about the unknown without the facts is not healthy for anyone. I promise you that Nathan and Chase are staying strong for Haley and Mia." Luke said, helping Brooke get ready to lock up.

"Where did Peyton and Julian go?" Brooke said, realizing only Lucas was responding.

"Peyton left two hours ago to help JC set up the collage for Sawyer and Ryan, Julian left an hour ago because he got a phone call from Carolyn." Lucas said closing the cash register, and locking it.

"What's wrong with Carolyn?" Brooke said anxious.

"Brooke, everything's just fine, she needed to get her overnight bag out of Beth's car since all the girls are staying at your house tonight. She called Julian to ask for the keys to your car to drop her bag off." Luke noted in a comforting way.

"So all the girls know their staying over at the house with the four of us?" Brooke said questioningly.

"Yes, Peyton sent me a text telling me that she was able to tell all of them that the plans changed and that they would all be staying over at the Baker house tonight!" Luke said concerned.

"Okay, great. That's one last thing I have to worry about." Brooke said, lifting her mug into the air--the air she thought was closest to Luke's voice--, unable to see through tears in her eyes.
