I always notice Alden looking at me. "What? Is something wrong with my face?"
"Yes, indeed," He said. "You look annoyed. Is something wrong?"
"Yes, indeed," I tried to copy his voice. "This girl at school, sabi dikit daw ako nang dikit sayo and I was just standing there like ew ikaw didikitan ko kadiri! Ewan ko kung bakit ka niya type!"
"Anong pangalan?" He seemed interested.
"Cindy Montae," I hilarously laughed.
"Did you just call her Montae?" He raised his eyebrow.
"Short for mukhan tae, totoo naman di ba?"
"Actually, siya nga yung girl of my dreams."
Everything went quiet. My heart sank. I don't know why. Is it because of my lost vein or something? I don't know. It feels different if I lost a vein. Yes, you heard it right. Vein. I never know if I will lose a vein or when will I not. Lahi namin eh. I could die because of it. I got like 34 veins left when I last visited my doctor which is like a hundred days ago. I don't know how much veins I have left now. Maybe just 30 or below.
"Is everything alright?" He asked.
"I may have lost a vein but I'm still okay," I fake smiled.

We went to Starbucks. First time ko magpunta dito, siyempre, mahirap lang kami. "What do you want to order?"
"Isang chicken and rice nalang," then he raised his eyebrow, confused.
He laughed so hard. "Walang rice dito! Kape lang haha. Umupo ka na nga lang diyan baka mapahiya ka pa."
How come can't a restaurant have rice? Whatever. He came back with a tray with two cups of coffee in it. There in the cup is written his and my name. "Ang sarap talaga ng cookies and cream ano?"
He laughed again, but this time, more hilaruously. "Java chip yan!"
"Grabe ka naman, nan-dedate ka ng babae tapos—" I covered my mouth after I realized what I've said.
"Did you just say 'date'?"
"Nantetreat sabi ko!" I lied.

Paano yung suweldo ko? Huy 2nd day ko na to" I told Alden.
He looked at me. He pulled something out from his wallet at sinupalpal ito sa mukha ko. OMG guess what I'm holding right now. P40,000! P10,000 left. Kahit hanggang bukas nalang ako magtatrabaho dito! Yes!
Just then napaupo ako sa sofa, holding my heart. Oh my, what is wrong with me? Why do I always keep losing veins. "Ayos ka lang? Tumayo ka diyan bilis pumasok ka sa kotse pupunta tauong ospital!"
Well, guess what, I can't speak and stand because it hurts so much. He started the engine and waited for me. "Parito bilis!"
Still can't. Binuhat na niya ako at dinala papuntang ospital. Bakit ba sobra ang pagpanic nitong mokong na to?

"Thank you Alden," I told him while he's driving the car.
He looked at me at the rearview mirror. "Seriously Maine? 26 veins left?!"
"Bakit ka ba nagpapanic?"
"Maine, look. 26 veins. Nasa 1/4 ka na or wala pa sa number ng veins!"
"Bakit ka ba kasi nagpapanic?!"
"Fine! Concerned!"
I am shocked right now. Concerned siya sakin eh si Louise Montae nga yung girl of his dreams kung tawagin niya. Siguro dahil mahirap lang ako wala akong panggamot at naooffend ako dun. Oh dahil kaplastikan lang niya? Ala ewan ko. Ako nga dapat yung nagpapanic eh!
