"John, all I can do is ask you not to confront him about this. He'd be extremely angry if he knew. It's obvious Dave has worked hard to hide this. Maybe he's embarrassed."

"Embarrassed to tell the world he likes guys?"

Rose looked at him sadly, her mouth curled in a frown. "The world doesn't take kindly to guys who like guys. You of all people should know that."

John slumped, the weight of knowledge making his shoulders sag. "How did we go from a sub-par date to Dave's secret sexuality? I just wanted to make fun of their gooeyness. Now I can't stop thinking about Dave with Karkat- whoever he is."

Rose put a comforting hand on his shoulder, looking at him serenely. "Whatever happened between him and Karkat is over now. Don't beat yourself up over Dave having an ex-boyfriend. If anything, be grateful. It means you have more of a chance."

"I don't have much of a chance to begin with. You saw how he was with Jade. You know who his heart belongs to."

"John..." she murmured. "I can only help you so much.

"And if you don't want my help, then I don't really want to stay here any longer. I have other things to do."

John's face froze with fear, his mouth open in an attempt to make the words come. But he knew Rose was right. In the end, he didn't want her help. He didn't want anyone's help. He just wanted Dave.

But Rose couldn't get him Dave. No one could get him Dave. So he shouldn't bother her with it any more.

John closed his mouth and turned away so he wouldn't have to watch his friend leave.

Instead, he gazed at his computer screen. There were no new messages- no point in talking to Dave or Jade since they were likely lost in each other's eyes.

However... there was a faint idea forming in his head. Maybe he could talk to the mysterious GA.

Or maybe, as a message blinked onto the screen, she would message him.

GA: This Is John Correct

GA: Roses Friend

GA: It Seems You Have Made Her Angry

EB: no, she's not mad at me.

GA: That Is Not What She Said

EB: rose just left... how did you know she was mad at me?

GA: Well

GA: Please Do Not Tell Anyone This But

GA: I Am With Rose Now In Person At Her House

EB: if you're so close that rose hangs out with you, how come i've never heard of you before?

GA: That Is For Rose To Know And For You To Find Out

EB: god, you are weird. but you do remind me a little of rose. i can see why she likes you- whoever you are.

GA: Thank You I Suppose Now Will You Tell Me Why You Made Rose So Upset

EB: i'm not really sure i want to tell you that. i mean, i don't even know you.

GA: Nonsense You Can Trust Me

GA: I Am Rose's G

GA: Rose's Friend

EB: oh my god were you going to say girlfriend? does rose have a girlfriend? oh my god.

GA: That Is Not What I Was Going To Say At All

GA: Do You Not Trust Rose

EB: honestly? i'm having some trouble at the moment.

He waited, but she didn't reply. John guessed that was understandable. It seemed right now, all he was good for was pissing people off. As the weight of the day's events set in, John realized all he really wanted was to get some sleep.

His sleep was thankfully dreamless, but his wake-up the next morning was rather jolting. It started with his dad opening the door and gently waking him up. "John? Son, wake up. Someone is here to see you."

Normally, the sight of his dad's kindly face always calmed him- but it wasn't so calming at eight in the morning. "Who? Who wakes up this early?"

Jade bounced onto his bed, her green eyes gleamed and her mouth opened in a bucktoothed smile. No matter the hour, Jade always buzzed with life.

Sometimes, of course, that was rather annoying.

"John! I have to show you something! Get dressed and come to my house!" She cried gleefully.

"Couldn't you have just pestered me...?" He mumbled, words thick with sleep still hanging on.

"This is way too exciting for that! You gotta see it- hurry, hurry!" As Jade jumped up and down like a little kid, his dad winked at him before slipping out the door.

Not even waiting for him to get dressed, she pulled him out the door with his blue pajama pants still on. John silently prayed Dave wasn't watching him try to keep up.

Well, at least he didn't sleep naked.

Bursting into Jade's house- which was adorned with fantastical creatures and pictures of blue ladies, thanks to her grandfather's eccentric taste- it only took him a second to see what she was so gleeful about.

"Holy crap, Jade. Is that a robot?"
