Two weeks have passed since the fight. I can't bear seeing him getting close with other girls, but I can't do anything about it, obviously. Who am I to stop him from being friends with other people? Who am I to stop him from ignoring me? I'm just a bestfriend. A bestfriend who cares, even though he can't see it. A bestfriend who gets worried when he's getting stressed. A bestfriend who dies inside, when he gets close with other people. Most of all, I'm a bestfriend who will always be right here, waiting for him to come back to me.
But it seems like he's never going back. It's time for me to accept it, but I can't.
"Hey, look at Sam. He's so stupid doing that," Emma said, pointing to Sam, who is reciting a speech, sarcastically.
"Uh-huh." I said, laughing. I just smiled. Even though he's the one who's hurting me the most, I can't escape from the fact that he's one of the people who can make me smile.
His face makes me laugh. His facial expressions makes me laugh so hard I almost died. Too bad, I won't be seeing them anymore up-close.
"Why did you ever have a crush on that guy?" Lee, my other girl bestfriend asked.
"I really don't know. He's nice."
"Pssh, Sam? Nice? Ace, those two words don't even fit. He teases me with Derek(her crush) in front of everyone. He blackmails me, and everything," Emma said, rolling her eyes.
" There's something in him.. I don't know what it is. Ever since the first day of school, I've had a crush on him. I wanted to be you(Emma) that time, because you were getting close with all the boys. I thought I wasn't gonna have any close boy bestfriends."
"You had naman, diba?" Emma asked.(she spoke in Taglish)
"Yes... But had. I guess destiny forbids me to have them(boy bestfriends)."
"Destiny doesn't forbid you to have them. Destiny wants you to find better boy best friends." Lee said, in an emotional way.
"But," I tried to fight for my side. I had this I-have-a-point look on my face. I sighed. "Okay, fine you win. You always win, one way, or another. You're so good at these things," I complimented Lee. She smiled.
It's true. I don't know how she does it, but she always wins in such arguments. It feels like she has experienced everything which I am going through, when in fact, I'm the first one to experience this, before her.
"Oh, do you mind if I leave you here? I need to talk to Yana, for our group project," Emma said, getting ready to leave.
"No problem," I said.
"Thanks, love you," Emma said, and she kissed me in the air.
I turned to Lee. She was quiet. Oh no. Something's wrong. She's not usually quiet.
I stared at her face, and she gave me a confused look.
"Are you mad? Is it something I did? What is it? Oh my gosh, what did I do?" I asked, frantically.
"No," she said, frowning. "What are you saying? I just want to be quiet."
"Oh okay," I said, laughing.
"Can I tell you something about Sam?" Lee said. "He told me something the other day, and this will surprise you. Well it didn't surprise me, because I knew it all along, it was so obvious."
I looked at her. The world stopped. What did Sam say to Lee?
