Chapter 3

Chapter 3: Its Official

I am really nervous this morning. Really nervous. I mean, what if the people of Ankoraudge don't like me. After all the position was just thrown at me. And I'm a girl at that. I just need to stop over thinking it.

A few minutes later, Kato came to escort me to the 'meeting area', a small cleared out building, so I could make a speech, which I had written last night.

"You ready America?" he asked.

I sighed. "Well if you want me to answer this question honestly, no not at all. What if they don't like me!?"

He looked into my eyes. "I know you'll do great America. We knew you were a fighter from the start. Plus, I wouldn't have appointed you for this position of I knew you weren't a warrior." He laughed. Kato always knows how to lighten up the mood, so I decided to play around with him.

"Or maybe because I'm just a beautiful girl?" I ran my hand down his chest.

"Oh... Well...um.....b-but, not because of that reason. Wait I'm not saying your not beautiful, because you are!" I could hear him mumbling stupid stupid stupid.

I laughed. "I was just joking Kato, stop being so serious all the time."

"Oh I um knew that already. Anyways let's go."

Once he had made it to the 'meeting place', people were already gathered around and whispering.

Kato strolled up to the podium. "Attention, people of Ankoraudge, as you know out last lord, Lord West, has recently vanished and no one knows his whereabouts. Therefore we need new lord
In order to maintain peace and organization throughout Ankoraudge. Now I will hand the floor to your new lord, Lord America." Everyone clapped and cheered, but I wasn't sure if it was for Kato's speech or for me.

"Hello, people of Ankoraudge. My name is America, but feel free to call me Lord America or Lady America, whatever you please." I said that in my most formal voice. "I am quite sorry for the disappearance of Lord West, but I believe I can help Ankoraudge out a lot. First, we'll be found some improvements around town that include but are not limited to, fixing the hole, making fields for crops, adding a guard tower and a prison, improving the paths, building more houses, building a plaza, creating a boat dock, and so much more. If you have any questions, feel free to see me anytime. Thank you."

At first there was silence, but then they erupted in cheers. They like me. I gave a friendly smile and wave to the people and gave Kato the floor again.

"Now if you'd like, were having a meet and greet with our new lord. Meeting over."

We walked off the stage and Kato introduced me to some residents.

"This is Austrya and Braden, oh and here's Abby and Carter." The two couples greeted me. And a coincidence, both Austrya and Abby were both pregnant, just to point that out.

I also met a farmer named Robert, a super rude librarian named Celeste, and a whole lot more people.

I was also introduced to another guard, second in command. His name was Roman. Something was off about him, but I couldn't think of what it was. Well whatever, don't judge a book by its cover.

There was no reason we couldn't get started right away so that night we got to work on the improvements. We decided first that we would build the fields and fix the holes first. Plus I wanted to build a house of my own because this place just gave me the creeps.

"America.....America wake up." I guess I had fallen asleep at the table and Kato was trying to wake me up.

"What time is it?" I asked sleepily.

"Let's just say it's very late. I carried you to bed. I'll just be heading out now. Goodnight m'lady." He turned to go but I stopped him.

"Wait Kato! Where do you go?"

Kato scratched the back of his head. "Well is guards are responsible for our own shelter and as of now we just sleep on the edge of the paths....."

Unbelievable! The old lord wasn't even kind enough to give them a place to stay. What a shame, but with me that's all gonna change.

"First of all Kato, I would be out of my right mind if I let you go sleep in the streets after all you've done for me. And second of all, why didn't the old lord give you a place to stay?"

"Well honestly the old lord was worth shit, but when you're a guard you have to protect your Lord."

I really felt sorry for him. Kato was a nice guy. "Well tonight's your lucky night! You can stay here if you want."

"Really your okay with that? Well thanks. There's only so much rocks and dirt a guard can take."

We settled in for the night and talked a little. I finally got sleepy and decided to give in.

Right before I blacked out I felt Kato pull me closer to him and say "America, what are you doing to me."
