Years-A-Back

I'm just getting started so bare with me and I'm going to put as much detail and thought as I can to get this story on point. I'm not to sure how many chapters I'm looking at or if there will be a sequel. But anyway I'm using some events from my life and some made up ones, not everything would be real events or what not. Its Fiction! Anyway Enjoy!!!

"Cathyann come here right now!" Screamed my older cousin Carol. I hated how everything was always me when they need something to be done, and the excuse was because I'm older than most the children. I got up and went to see what was wrong. "Yesh Carol." I exclaimed. "Let's go with me to the supermarket please cause we need a few things to cook." "Okay, is Keda and Leeann coming?" "Yeah run and call them and y'all meet me by the car, hurry!" I ran upstairs and saw them playing so I called them over to me. "Y'all Yandi said we gotta go with her to the supermarket, come on hurry up before she leave!" When we ran down the steps Leeann missed a step and fell. "Oh shit Leeann just bussed her ass son!" Shouted Raven from by the sink. "Don't laugh at me, y'all mean!" "Beep!!" Went the horn. "We coming Carol!!" When we got outside the car was already started so we just hopped in.
____At The Supermarket____

"Ok Cathyann go to the aisle with meat and take a bag of chicken worth of $20, you can look at the top of the bag and see the price." "OK!" I ran to the meat aisle and tried to get the chicken but because of my height I just couldn't see. I got mad and sat on the floor when an old lady passed by. "Darling why you look so down and you sitting on that dirty floor, get up and tell me what's wrong." I got up and looked at her, "My cousin sent me to get $20 worth of chicken but I'm to short to see and tell the difference between chicken and all the other chickens and the price too!" "Oh well sweetie pie let me help you." "Ok, thanks." The lady handed me a big bag of chicken and said "Look this is $20 worth of chicken, bring to over to your cousin without dropping it or do you want me to help?" "If you help me it will be better, so I would love that." Together the lady and I looked for Carol and when we found her the lady gave her the bag, I said thank you and she left. "Cathyann you needed somebody's help to get the chicken?" Asked Carol. "Yes I was to short to reach." "Oh ok well I didn't know, if I did I would of came with you my bad." We continued shopping and went to the cashier with our foodstamp card paying for everything. "Alright girls let's go."

____Back At Home____

"Mommy!!" I screamed when I seen my mommy walk through the house door looking tired as ever. "Hey momma's baby, wassup?" "Nothing, just coloring my homework see!" I exclaimed pushing my drawing in her face so she could see. "Ohh, what's this drawing supposed to be?" I looked down feeling two ways, "Its my family momma see. There's you, and me, and Leeann, and Leetram." Momma placed her hand on her hip and looked down at me. "Cathyann in a family there is always a dad and I know you have one so where is he?" I looked everywhere but at my momma, trying to understand what my mommy still saw in a man who beats her and pushes her around. Being just a kid they would think that I don't understand but I do and I just can't say anything about it cause no one would listen to a kid. "Momma the pencil broke and no one had a sharpener so I left it as that." I lied to her like it was the truth." She looked at me to see if I was telling the truth then she stooped down to my level and said "Baby it don't matter what your father and I go through or what he does to me, he loves you ok and I promise that one day things will get better one day." She sighed and stood up and walked to my Aunty's room. I sat in the same spot with momma's words playing in my head over and over, just thinking what if things don't get better and they get worse. I closed my eyes and I soon fell asleep on the living room rug in the same position I was with my mind and heart full of doubt, in my momma's words of course.

____Later That Night____

"Mommy is daddy coming home tonight?" Asked my little sister Leeann. She glaced up at the clock above the fridge and sighed. "Baby girl I don't know but I guess he is, don't worry he will be home to tuck you in and if not I will do it okk?" She blinked her eyes twice and shook her head yes. I got up from the table where we were having dinner, it has barely been a hour since we left Aunty Pearl's house and I miss being there already. "Momma I'm going to my room." She looked at me and nodded. Living in this big house made no sense to me, it was only 5 of us in an eight bedroom, four bathroom home. Not to talk about the big living room, dinning room, and kitchen that took up the whole of downstairs leaving space for only one room and one bathroom which was for guest. When my granny came from St.Lucia she would stay in the guest room, sometimes I just go there to take in her scent and feel comforted by it. I walked up the stairs and half way there I heard noises coming from my older brother Leetram's room. I ran in my room cause I thought someone was hitting a girl in there with the kind of noises I heard. Then I remembered that he had his girlfriend over, I looked at my self in the mirror. Passing my hand through all these girls on my dark skinned head and sighed, I think one day I'm going to cut it shorter than what it is now. I changed from the clothes I had on since I took a bath by Aunty Pearl and put my night clothes on. I laid in bed and soon sleep took over.
