Chapter 3

After I got dressed, I was let back outside and got into the same limo we came from the airport in. Upon exiting the gates to the mansion that I didn’t notice before, we drove down a street that was filled with other mansions. Mansions that were also beautiful and extravagant. For 15 minutes we drove down different streets, all filled with mansions. For a second it made me think that everyone lived like that. Then we drove out onto a highway and in through a neighborhood, that looked like it was for middle class and into downtown where tall skyscrapers dominated the streets. People were driving and walking everywhere. Red light, green lights, yellow flashing lights, honking, clicking, talking, and other noises and effects surrounded the area. It was busy. Life was moving in full swing here.

We drove up to a large white building with the words Dreamweaver on a sign. It looked just like the one on the plane. Mark got out of the car and opened the door for us. Jennifer got out and I followed suit. Walking up into the building we headed straight to the elevators.

“What are we doing here?” I finally found my voice to ask.

“We’re here to meet Mr. and Mrs. Weaver.”

”What is this place?”

”This is their company.”

I noticed Jennifer’s short answers. Before this, she talked freely, here she was more professional and straight to the point. Even her expression changed, from soft to professionally hard. The elevator ride wasn’t long. We got out on the 5th floor and straight into a large waiting room. Jennifer instructed me to sit down on an available chair as she went to the desk in the middle of the room.

“Sir and Madam, I have brought the child,” Jennifer said.

“Give us a moment,” a male voice came though the intercom.

Several minutes past. Jennifer was typing at the desk as I looked around. It was big. Pictures of building drawn in pencil were hung around the room.

“What is their business?” I asked.

“Architecture and design.”

“Wow, they must be very successful.”

”They are the number one company in Charlotte.”

Charlotte. I didn’t even know where I was. If I wasn’t mistaken, I was now in Charlotte, North Carolina. Looking over to the table next to me, I picked up a magazine and started to flip through it. On one of the pages that I flipped through, my guess was confirmed. The article was about Dreamweaver.  There was a picture of a couple. The woman was beautiful with dark brown, wavy shoulder length hair. Her eyes were sparkling chocolate brown. She looked like she was in her late 30s early 40s. The man also had brown hair, but his eyes were green. He looked just a little older than the woman. Under the picture was a statement: Stacy and Kyle Weaver, Director and CEO of Dreamweaver, number one architecture and design company in all of Charlotte, North Carolina. So this was her new family.

“You may come in,” a female voice came through the silence.

Jennifer got up from her desk and instructed me to follow her into the office. She knocked indicating she was coming in and opened the door. When we walked in, I saw Kyle sitting at his desk, and Stacy standing next to him. Both had their heads down looking at something on the desk. They were engrossed in a project I guessed. As we walked closer, Stacy looked up. Confusion was written on her face. Kyle must have noticed her reaction and looked up also. I’ve always wondered how people felt other’s reactions. Maybe it’s a husband and wife thing.
