The office was full of tension. I could see all the employees walking around, waiting to know their fate. Will the company go bankrupt? Will they be laid off? Where will they work after this? Stacy paced around the office. Sara sat on the couch. She was here as support for Stacy. I could see she was worried for her best friend. Only I was somehow confident. I have never been confident. But for some reason, I was this time. After the presentation, I left the men in the conference room by themselves to talk it over and to absorb all the information I gave them. Stacy was biting her nails as she kept sitting down and standing up.

“Stacy, calm down just sit still will you?” Sara begged.

“What if they find fault in it again?”

“It’ll be fine,” I said with determination.

On cue, the clients came into the office. Their facial expressions were filled with satisfaction.

“We have to say Ms. Weaver, we are impressed. The designs you have presented us were more than satisfactory as you promised. We can’t wait to start.”

I heard Stacy take a sharp intake of breath. I smiled and stretched out my had.

“It was nice working with you.”

“Likewise.”

After cleaning up the office, I went home to find a letter from the school. Opening it up, I found the letter stating that I passed my college exam. Wow, I guess life can be fair sometimes. I never thought 2 good things can happen in one day. After telling Stacy, she decided that we were going to throw a party celebrating the saving of Dreamweaver and my passing the exam. Laura was genuinely happy for me, despite the fact that we wouldn’t be able through senior year together.

The rest of the summer wasn’t the same as every other summer. Laura was still gone. I found out that my score’s on the exam tied with Jacob’s and that the scholarship award would have to be split between us. The mailbox was full of letters from different universities wanting me to attend their campus. I guess there was a perk to being the first junior to pass that exam. Stacy was bragging to everyone about my acceptance to almost every university and college in the US. We read every pamphlet that was sent to us and eventually started to make a chart of pros and cons of every campus. Eventually, the one that weighed out all of them was our local university.

We sent in the application of acceptance to them and within a week I got my congratulatory letter. My orientation date was scheduled and dorm room number was given with the keys. Stacy, Sara and I went to the campus to look around and see what the room looked like. Both Stacy and Sara were determined to decorate my room, and I decided to let them. After all, I would be almost gone for 4 years.

Summer was ending fast. So much has happened in the past couple months. I was almost done packing my things. Most of my clothes were already in the fully furnished and decorated dorm, compliments of S&S (aka Sara and Stacy). Laura came back from her trip only to say that she was now headed to Asia for more concerts. Her recent accomplishments are making so that she would probably have to be home schooled for her senior year.

On the last night I was spending at home, I was taking a walk down the street. I wanted to make sure to remember everything about this place. Yes, I was close by and could come home anytime, but I would be busy, and there wouldn’t be time. As I was walking, I ran into Jacob. It was like fate was working its magic in giving us a second chance.

“Hi,” I said before he could say anything. I wanted to be the first one this time. I wanted to let him know that I had forgiven him.

“Hi.”

“Congratulations on passing.”

“You too. I guess we tied.”

“Yea. So where are you going to go?”

“Charlotte. You?”

”Same.”

“I guess we’ll be seeing each other around campus.”

“I guess so.” There was a moment of silence until Jacob interrupted it.

“Listen..I’m really sorry about before. I just wanted to get to know you and didn’t know how, because you were different from all the other girls.”

“I get it. Let’s forget about it and start over.”

“I’d like that.” We smiled.

This was the beginning of a beautiful and long awaited friendship.
