Kinaru: Yeah, it's been a while... I'm sorry. I meant to post this chapter before I updated Where We Stand again, but this chap wasn't quite finished at the time.

Anyway, I don't own Naruto, no matter how much I wish I did, only my OCs.

Enjoy

Chapter 4

"Okuma Akihiko!"

Said boy winced quite visibly, he was about four steps outside of the Academy entrance when he felt the familiar ground shaking cease as Miki came to a stop behind him. If he had just hurried a little faster, he could've made it to the apartment. Too bad he had rejected Kiba's offer to hang out after class, but really he didn't want his Onee-san to meet his new and only friend just yet.

"You tried to leave with out me." He sighed, allowing the mint haired kunoichi to tug him up onto the bear's back, behind her. Really, why had he bothered to try sneaking off, Miki would have sniffed him out anyway.

"I didn't know whether the Hokage would be keeping you longer than expected or not." He said, accepting the one armed hug as she beckoned for Miki to move out. "For all I knew he was testing your ninja rank."

He was sure she wore that same fake smile on her lips, that she always did, as she responded to his words. "I participated in the chunin exams held here a few years back remember? He doesn't need to test my rank. But he said if I work hard with my training I'll be eligible to become a nominee for jounin in a few months." Aki furrowed his brow at this.

If she was to become a jounin she would no doubt be given her own team of genin. She'd be devoting most of her time to them and he'd hardly ever see her. Though he didn't like the amount of free time she had right now, a little part of him wasn't willing to let her go off on missions without him just yet.

"Do you really need to move up to jounin?" He asked, his voice falling to a hushed tone. The way her back muscles tensed against him, told him everything he needed to know.

She knew why he was hesitant to let her back out into the field. She didn't want to leave his side either. They'd hardly separated since their parents. Even if it had at one point been Mariko's dream to become the best shinobi she could be, now it seemed moving on to the next stage might still be out of the question.

"Oi, it's not like I'll get promoted and given a team right away." She said, using a humorous tone, hoping to break the tension. "Who know maybe I'll end up being assigned your sensei when you graduate?"

He wrinkled his nose at the thought, sure he loved his sister, but if she was his jounin sensei? That wouldn't work, she'd favor him without even realizing she was doing so. "Doubt the Hokage would allow that."

She chuckled at his words, knowing what he was thinking without him even dropping a clue. She'd always been that way. He was only able to read a few of her layers where as she could see straight through him.

"So tell me, how was your first day of school?" Aki wince involuntarily, he'd been hoping she'd forgotten about that. He really didn't want to talk about it. The only good part of the day was meeting Kiba. The Inuzuka was the only one that didn't treat him like the brand new toy in a daycare.

"Come on, Aki, how was school?" His Onee-san looked back at him, as Miki began the walk back to their apartment.

"It was fine." Her mismatched gaze narrowed as she gave him the look that said she wouldn't let him get away with it. The younger sighed, hiding his face in her hair. "It was okay, until someone said I looked like some kid."
